Cardio

I hate treadmills and things of that sort....much rather be outside running...

I've had a few people tell me doing 10-15 100 yard sprints is sufficient cardio...however, I prefer running 1-2 miles on my cardio day...

Being as cardio is all about keeping an increased heart rate, wouldn't a longer sustained rate be more beneficial? I see a lot of you guys talking about 30-40 minutes on cardio day, which naturally it doesn't take that long to run a mile or two, so maybe I am not doing enough anyway?

I feel that anything more than 30mins is too much. Longer periods of cardio increases cortisol levels, not to mention too much cardio can be catabolic. Keeping your heart rate elevated to at least 70% of your maximum is the best method for burning fat, doing it for too long however, will not be benefitial.

hey bro, i dont know if this is true or not but i read in some other site board saying that it takes 20 minutes for the body to start burning fat, so after the 20 minutes is when the actual fat burning begins. Say doing 30 minutes of cardio, actually 10 min are fat burning. Im not saying i go by this method but wanted to know if its true or not. Im currently goin for 20-30 3 times a week though. WHat are you alls thoughts on this?

I'd say it's true, but only if you're doing cardio first and workout second. If you workout first, then do cardio, your workout has used up most of your glucose, by the time you get to your cardio, your body will need to start to dip into your fat storages. Either or, I think that after 30mins, as your levels of cortisol start to increase, the cortisol will make the body to stop utilizing the fat for energy and will start to break up the proteins in your muscles and use the amino acids as glucose, hence the catabolism. That's what i've always thought. Maybe someone more knowledgable can help out here. I'm bulking now, but when I do cardio, i'm doing the same thing you are.

i always do cardio on separate days from working out, when i dont work out. Or i do them for 20 min after workouts. I see people doing cardio first and then not giving it thier all.
