HEEEEEEEEELLP !

Ok .. some of you may know me from the "other" side of the forum . I have not been on in awhile. Mainly because of back injury and hating the way I look right now. I was in a car wreck and now have alot of things wrong with my back ... I already have degenerative discs disease.. I also have 2 bulges and also arachnoiditis which is a nerve problem that causes burning in the back down the glutes and hammys.

My doctor has cleared me only to do pilates!! Now I am sure anything works if you work it but I am used to throwing around the steel in the gym. Basically what I am looking for is an effective low weight high rep type work out where I can incorporate a good burn and grow as well as cut up and loose some of this weight I put on. I was 225 when I came "off" and now I am about 215 with a little extra far around the stomach due to pain killers and junk food. They made me very lazy and now I want ME back. Any suggestions ? Help a bro out

well I will say probably about 90% of doctors don't know the first thing about a good weightlifting program that is designed to be safe and affective. that said I am not sure what to recommend with all your ailments.

I would start with as many lifts as possible that utilize your own body weight as the resistance. Things like pull-ups, push-ups, dips, rows (laying on your back and pulling up to a bar with your feet supported-I can find a pic if you need one), squats using medicine balls, leg curls with a swiss ball, etc. Start slowly and I would even consider wearing back support depending on where the bulging discs are. Like you said, light weights that will allow you to keep perfect form are crucial and remember it's always best to move your body through space rather than a fixed body with moving weights, when you can. Good luck, bro! That sounds rough!

dont push it and come back too early... you dont want to make things worse.... maybe spend some time on low impact cardio and work on cutting up some...

Dude, I would seriously consider a chiropractor. Mine explained to me how bulging discs can be corrected and most of the time cured through chiropractic care. A bulging disc is nothing more than vertebra that are stuck causing the cartilage in between to compress and push all the liquid out of it causing it to bulge. A chiropractor can restore that natural movement to your spine. There is obviously some damage to your back that won't be fixed, but I would bet my ass that a good chiropractor would be able to give you some awesome advice on how to get back into good physical shape.

I would also recommend checking out this website.

www.mattfurey.com

Be warned, this guy is a pretty extreme, but there is alot of stuff in his book "Combat Conditioning" that you could use on your way to some semblence of your old self. He advocates bodyweight exercises. He tends to shun weight training, but keep in mind, the dude was a world fighting champion, so he kind of knows what he's talking about.

Good luck man

so I got that book - pretty cool workouts - some of them are near impossible for me to do in this state but i am positive that if i work at this i can definitely get back better movement - im going to do light weight - high rep - lately i have been crazy with work - ive been walking at night and in the morning - brisk walk on an empty stomach -
