muscle has memory? or amnesia?

you know i just dont get it.....i know people who can stay up till 2 in the morning drinking and partying, and get up at 6 am and run a marathon....meanwhile i can do everything right, eat good, drink a gallon of water hit the rack at 9pm and if i get up at 6am with these guys and try to keep up, id be sucking wind at the 1 mile mark!!! Is it just genetics? I can work up to haveing pretty good cardio, monday through friday, but if i take one day off it seems like im at square one the next day.

is my muscle/cardio memory just not very good, or do i just suck?

i feel the same way right there man. Everything could be going well for me all week but one day of party ruins everything for me.

Some of it's definitely genetics. I knew a guy who ran for a while, but hadn't run in about 4yrs, smoked about a pack a day and went out and ran a sub-3hr marathon w/o training once. That's what you call a genetic freak!

Unfortunately, you either got it or you ain't. Sure most people can be much better than they are by training, but genetics will only allow them to go so far. Regardless of what they do or take. You've probably seen these lucky f'ers in your gym.. They come in and work nothing but upper body and have legs like a power lifter and they never work them. Same with people in sports situations. Many years ago I played golf with a kid who had never played before, never. I showed him the basic grip, stance, etc. He shot under 85!!! It wasn't beginner's luck either. He had a beautiful fluid swing as good as any pro's I have ever seen. I had taken him out while his Dad had to work one day and he moved away shortly after. I don't know where he went or what he wound up doing--he should have played more golf.. BTW, he was 13 years old. A "natural". BB

yea it freaking sucks.....my week goes like this.

I do a lot of sprint training with body wieght stuff worked in between, example......sprint 50 yards, drop do 30 push ups, sprint backwards 50 yards to starting point, drop and do 20 burpees....thats one example of a routine i do, and i go for rounds, so basically i repeat these sprints/excercises as many times as possible for say 3 minutes (1 round) then rest 90 seconds and do it again.

so Mondays generally suck and i usually get 4, 3 minute rounds done before border line puking.

Tuesdays are better and then Fridays i can sometimes do up to 5, 5 minute rounds and feel great!!!
Then the weekend comes, i slack off on the diet a little, and then Monday its back to square one!!!
Its like each day of the week is a step forward so mon-fri. i take 5 steps forward in my cardio progression, so youd think that taking 1 day off would be like 1 step backwards right? but for me its like 1 day off = 5 steps back and im back where i started!!!! Do i just have to work that much harder and not allow myself the slack that a genetically gifted athlete can allow himself?

Well, you're going to have to forget trying to be like a genetically superior person, you have to "run what you brung". But to even get close, yes, you'll have to train harder to even get remotely close. You didn't mention diet or what you do on the weekends that might cause you to bomb out on Monday's. It sounds to me like you're not getting enough of the proper nutrition you need to train as hard as you seem to. Do you drink and party, or just kick back and do nothing on the weekend? Either of these will leave you drained on Monday. Resting IS very important, as is a proper diet. But if I personally just "veg out" all week-end, I'm ruined on Monday too. BB
