I've been wondering about this matter lately. My training schedule contains about 3-4 exercises (4 sets of 6 to 8 reps per set) per body area. I always find myself having time left at the gym and feeling like doing an extra effort. Would I be overtraining if I did more than just my schedule, and if not, when would I be overtraining?
