has anyone ever used a bf scale?
Theres scales out that will tell you body fat. I have a feeling there off alot. My mom bought one at her house and the thing is nuts. I go in on days and it will say 32% bf other days say 22 and the other night said 14%. So im pretty sure there way off just seeing if anyone else has tried them. Im really interested in getting my bf measured but am wondering where i can go to get it professionally done. Do doctors do it or should i see a nutritionist?

No there not any good. They are only useful to get an idea for tracking bf progress. But you have to do it the same time every day of the same type of day. So if you did it in the evening and you worked out prevousily one day and not the other, it will be different.

the way I use, which is fairly accurate, is with bodyfat calipers. You have to get used to pinching skin folds and stuff, and still always take bf measurements with a grain of salt. Start here, with one of these:
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...Search+Froogle the Lange one is the one I use now, I've also used the Accu-Fitness plastic one and the Fat-Track Gold. Then, when you have your skinfold measurements, go here and plug them in: http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/BodyComp.html or, find out who does hydrostatic testing...

EDIT -- if you do buy one, check with the board sponsors first to see if they're selling the kind you'd like...the Froogle page is just for a range of available calipers

even the calipers can be off if you're not totally clear on how to use them properly...but yeah, had the same problem with the scale. I swear it just randomly picked numbers...would have been better just closing my eyes and using the force! :hmmm:
as far as I'm concerned, unless you REALLY have to know your bf, best measure is the mirror! if you like what you see great, if not...get to work! (which reminds me, time to get to work myself!) |
