355 for 3 on DL

I know a lot of you guys on here deadlift atleast 500lbs, but I am so pumped right now. I just did 295-8, 315-6, 335-4, and 355 for 3. That is the heaviest I have gone, and I know you guys can relate to it. Plus none of my friends work out or deadlift. Anyway I had to tell someone. Later

I know how you feel, congratulations. I remeber I didn't use dead lift at all. Then once I got past that 315 it was exciting.

Congratulations! PR's are always exciting, especially when it's something like deads or squats. Keep it up and you'll be at 500 in no time. :bravonew:

Thanks guys.... it is weird. When I do deadlifts at the gym is seems like everyone is watching to see what the hell i am doing. Like I am retarded or something. I work out at lifestyles which is a more like a meeting place for people. But it is fun to watch people react when you have some weight on the bar. I have never seen anyone do them, which is half the fun in doing them

Congrats, bro! I work out in a more traditional gym, and I hardly see anyone deadlifting. Definitely my favorite powerlift, though.

LOL! I work out at a gold's and, even there, you don't hardly see anybody deadlifting. I don't understand why it's so ignored. The bench press benches are used about 10x more than the deadlift station or the squat racks. Works out great for me! It's funny though to do some different lift and get all the stares and then see people trying it for themselves later.

I still do romanian deadlifts (sort of a variation on SLDL's) on leg day, but I don't use much weight. I stopped doing heavy deads on back day for two reasons. One, my lower back can't take squats and deadlifts in the same week. Since I need squats for my legs but I don't need deads for my back (the only two lifts you need for back are pull-ups/downs and cable rows) I choose squats. The other reason is when I did heavy deads I started getting really huge lower traps. It almost made me look like a hunch-back.

Im with Lightsout, DL everyother week bc it is just too much with squating every week. I got 405 the other day for 4 reps with belt and straps! Would love to try 5 plates, but I feel they are an exersice you should increase very gradually due t injury.

Control, what percentage do you mean by light compared to squats do you mean. For example, say you squat 300 would you do 200 deads? I did what you suggested for lower body and my lower back was pretty damn sore but I was doing squats and romanian deads with close to the same weight.

how do you feel about bent-over barbell rows?

I'm with you on the lower back thing, although I once had a 3-day split with squat on one day, and deads on another...more like a powerlifting workout/split, so I guess there was no escaping squatting AND deads in the same week. Nowadays, I do deads once a month or so.

My heavy set set for squats is 315 right now (that's ass-to-ankles and I'm off cycle) for 15-20 reps. I finish leg day with romanian deadlifts and my heavy set is 185 for 12-15 reps.

I honestly feel that seated cable rows, or low pulley rows, or whatever you want to call them are a better exercise for the back than bent-over barbell rows. If you do bent-over barbell rows you can either bend all the way (90 degrees) and put your lower back in jeapordy when going shit-heavy, or bend at a 45 degree angle (which most guys do) and get a good trap workout. Sure you're hitting the lats a little, but the ROM is way shorter than with cable rows.

Don't believe the hype, free weights aren't ALWAYS better than machines/cables.

egor lol,
i know a lot of guys (bb'lders) who are adimit about not doing heavy deads for that reason you mentioned. Also, I suppose it could give ppl a "blocky" or square thick waist line not exactly ideal for bb'lding. It doesnt bother me right now so I do them both per week. However, I do alternate some weeks with good mornings/bent-rows. As far as the RDL (which isnt even Romanian or a DL IMO) is similar to the stiff-legged variety than the traditional deadlift. Right? Im supprised your a fan of RDLs as a replacement. Maybe I need to give them another try.

thanks...I don't, I just like bent over rows, but I also do cable rows, you probably think that's redundant, but...
