I think this site will be very usefull for you http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html

I don't see the exercise I like best. But all you do is get a barbell behind you, put your arms to your side and reach back to grab the barbell. Then with an open grip just curl up.

I like static gripping myself. 1) Grab a pair of heavy dumbbells. (2) Hold them till near failure and then rack them.

My father worked as an electrician all his life. Using screwdrivers and pliers gave him friggin strong forearms. I made my own wrist roller our of a piece of 2.5" pvc and a rope. The larger diameter makes it harder to grip plus you're rolling the weight up and then down again. Feel the burn, baby!!!!! My forearms feel like they're going to explode after that.

I heard that Arnold used to ball his fists and then stretch his hands open, ball his fists then stretch his hands open as fast as he could for like 30 seconds or so. Can anyone verify that? I don't remember where I heard it and I haven't been able to find anything on it. I tried it once and it felt like my hands were gonna fall off.

Yes, and even better is to hold some heavy-ass dumbbells while doing walking lunges. With this my forearms are so warn out after my walk that I can barely make it back to the weight rack with them.

Thought I'd bump this thread. Other than shrugs, DLs and such, does anyone do anything for grip strength? I'm not talking about working forearms but grip strength. I went bowling Saturday and gripping that damn ball made my forearm sore like a mofu. That pretty much disgusted me so I thought I'd ask if anyone trains for grip strength. Is there a major difference between strong forearms and grip strength?

Only thing I do is shrugs and dl's. They've really helped build my forearms. Sometimes I like to tie a 10lb weight to a string attached to a db handle and twist it up or use the hand grippers but that's about all.

They do work. More for grip endurance. I notice I can hold my shrugs and deads longer. Everyone says I got big forearms, so maybe they are good for building mass.

From my understanding they may build muscle and strength, but the repetitive motion can give you carpol tunnel (sp?). I could be wrong but I remember hearing that not too long ago, I would assume from this site.

Any repetitive motion with your fingers is going to give carpo. Just go slower when you do them. Carpo is from the friction buildup from quick frequent movements.

so because the forearms are simmilar to the calves, should I be whacking it every workout or only once a week? Unfortuately for me, I'm stuck with lighter weight for lots of reps...

For me, effective size on forearms is best gotten from lifting heavy. If its not possible to train with heavy weights then you need to

1)do wrist curls, either with a) your forearm on your thighs while seated on a bench with palms facing up and curl your wrists up towards the ceiling, b)stood holding barbell with both hands behind you, palms facing backwards and curl up.
2) reverse wrist curls - same as method 1 a) except with palms facing down.

I did that for the first time this week, and it killed my arms. The best workout I have ever done for my forearms.

Its a bit out of the norm for this sight, but ive been doing it alot in the last several months with great results.

All you need is a straight bar you can hang from, like a pull up bar ect. The first step is just to grab the bar and hang upside down with your knees tucked to you chest. Your trying to get 60 sec in one go if you dont get it, take a small break go back and do it again adding up your totals untell you get the full 60.

Once you get the full 60 in one go forget about the tuck you start rolling your hips down tell your back is flat then start all over trying to get to 60.

There are like 8 steps or so will see if i can find a link.
