Back Injury

So I go to the gym one day to do my usual legs routine... well i finish up with my leg routine and I say to myself, "hey ill do some shoulder exercises too while im here"... i do 3 sets of military press, then i do 3 sets of shrugs, lastly im doing my lateral raises and you know how when you start to strain on those last raises you tend to throw it up and arch your back, well i felt a sudden sharp ass pain in my back, so i put the weight down and sat down to take a breather... well it didnt go away so i went home and put a heating pad on it... well now my back is hurting like a mofo... but it seems to be getting better over time... at first it hurt all the time especially when im going to bed and when i wake up and try to get out of bed... now it mainly only hurts when i twist my torso to the right or left or sit up out of bed... its in my midback area.... any ideas what could have happened?

Try taking some aleve or ibuprofen to alleviate the pain and inflammation. You may need to take a week rest from training.

lie on your back.

flex your abs and keep them flexed.

then, in a chopping motion with both of your hands, go all the way up and down your abs, from the bottom of the rib cage down to the pubic bone.

do this for 30 seconds straight and do it three times a day. im not sure where exactly in your mid back it is hurting, but this very well could help.

sounds like upper back, lat raises arn't heavy excercise so its not gonna be long term, next time stuff like that happens get ibuprofen in as soon as you get home.
