Interval Training?
It is summertime and that means running season. I am looking to improve my endurance so I can start running in the 5 and 10k races. I have heard that interval training works well to increase cardio, but I don't know too much about it. Any help would be appreciated.

When I went to Wrestling Camp back in HS, I had also gone to Cross Country Camp during those years. One thing we always did at camp was that we had 3 days of 15mile runs(loved those, I really did) at a 7:30 mile pace. The short days(8mile days) were at a 6:45 pace, sometimes 6:30. Keeping a log(which I still have, quite funny to look it over at times)helped me so much. I wrote everything in it. You also have to be careful with road races, they take a toll on your shins. Do you have any parking garages in your area? Use a watch when you run, but just don't get addicted to it. At 1st you want to know what you're running, but after time, you'll be able to pace yourself without the watch.

I'm also proud to say that Bob Braman was the best coach I've ever had period. He's now at FSU.

Right now I am only running 3-5 miles 3 days per week. I am doing this at a 9 minute per mile pace. After a couple months of doing this I really haven't improved my time that much (10 minute mile pace before) and I seem to be getting just as tired and worn out as I did when I first started. I was looking to change it up a bit to shock my system, and get out of this rut. Any ideas?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fartlek
Fartlek is one of the key advanced training techniques for running that there is. It is also key for sports like rugby and soccer where you have to shift rapidly from aerobic to anerobic regimes and back. I would say that it is also key for developing the "kick" in endurance events.
