Darn it, Dislocated Shoulder!
Hey guys I dislocated my right shoulder playing tackle football, its been a week and a half now and I am still in pain. Unfortunately I don't have health insurance and was hoping someone here could relay their doctors advice on how to rebuild the muscles that hold the shoulder in place to me!
I did see an ER doctor who x-rayed me diagnosed me with a sub-luxation and referred me to their orthopedic doctor but my financial situation and lack of health insurance prevents me from seeing the specialist. So my band of brothers anyone who has suffered this frustrating injury your advice will be Greatly appreciated! Advice on treatment and physical therapy is what I am really looking for as well as personal healing times and how long before I could work out with weights on my upper body? Thanks again in advance. |

Rehab can be tricky without seeing it in person. You have to remember that everything in your shoulder got stretch or partially torn. So some scaring is going to form as part of the healing process, but you want to keep from having excesive scaring. First and foremost, do not use any weights until all pain has subside. In the mean time do a lot of range of motion exercises with your arm full extended and when bent at the elbow. If everything is working fine and dosn't feel overly sore (like you can't do normal funcions afterwards) then you can step up to using therabands. Same concept of listening to your shoulder but giving it a little push. Then after that you can move up to weights and do what feels comfortable.

What exactly is the problem? What did they do for you in the ER. The subluxation caused by the dislocation. Im not going to assume anything. Did they fix the dislocation? Does your shoulder go "in and out of joint" or feel loose?
I would begin rehab with shoulder stability exercises. Google is your friend. http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_shsublux_rex.htm http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_shsublux_sma.htm http://www.sportsmed.buffalo.edu/info/sublux2.html 3-4 x week. 4-6 exercises reps of 15-30. Your not doing anyting active are you? Benching football etc? Internet advise for the shoulder... :hmmm: I guess you will may drop to the 2 or 3 pick. |
