Towel Pull Ups
Going to do them tomorrow on my back day in place of traditional pull ups. However, I am going to move them to just after my deadlifts instead of before, so I have full grip strength for my deads.
Never done these before, but I have read they are great for forearm size and grip strength. (Which I need both of) Are these just as good for the lats as traditional pull ups? Or are their benefits strictly for grip? |

I don't know. Can't wait to hear how you felt them.

i have taken the tricep rope (for pushdowns on cables) and slung it around a bar and did pullups that way. basically the same as using a towel - i seemed to feel it more in my hands and forearms. didnt seem to hit the lats as well as traditional pullups

i would separate your forearm and grip strength exercises from your other muscle groups. your just not going to be able to hit the lats as hard trying to hold onto a towel.

they would be great if he did a machine pullover and then hit the towel pullups....that would be good but I agree that his grip would fail before any significant lat work took place until you become proficient at them

towel pullups are great, often I will assign clients to do these in place or rope climbing... as they are a great substitute.
You can play around with the towel PU's as well, making them different lengths, pulling more to one side, lots of neat things. Have fun with them!

Well they really did burn the forearms, and they are hard as shit as seem very beneficial. I just need to find a place for them. It was one of those things where my forearms reached failure well before my lats.

yeah if your like a 160lb climber they're probably great, but at like 245lb they wouldn't work for me
