workout logs or not. . .

In general I used to keep a workout log (always when I was natty) but in the last year or two I have gotten away from it because I felt I was concentrating too much on the technical aspects and getting kind of "burnt out" so to speak with recording everything . . .
I have just been going in now and freakin blasting it to hell on everything and have been getting some of the best results. Obviously i have been training a long time and I know my body really well, have perfect form and I have a good idea as to what works best for me so that helps out. . .
my question for everyone is this: do you keep a log and if you do has it helped you a lot?
I am going back to keeping one for my whole year of training up til I compete next year at the end of the year and I am curious to see if I get better gains this coming year because of it or if it does not help me out

that is one thing I really like to do as wel. .. .I had this one log from when I was really young and I had made up all short forms for the exercises. . .and my little sister pulled the code page out of the front so I was fucked when I looked back a few years later and could not remember what each thing stood for haha

All serious trainer`s should keep a journal. It can help you immensely ,especially during pre-contest prep.Besides, it`s fun to look back and see weights that were once heavy, are now your warm-ups.You should also keep a nutrition log. Both are essential IMO!!

Yep, I keep a log of my eating whenever I do a show. . .offseason I pretty much eat what I want so I don't really bother then unless work gets really crazy and I start missing meals etc. . .then I find writing it down as I go makes it easier to be consistant. ..

I dont keep logs. I change my rountines every 1-2 weeks so its fruitless and too time consuming for me to keep a log

Serious Goal requires serious commitment.

Logs are essential for me to reach that goal.

Nowadays do more concerned with the logging of meals, am just like you canada, much more easier to be consistent if I log, if I don't find myself missing a meal, and then walla, three days later I'm off track and feeling it in workouts and daily life, little more tired etc. , very noticeable.

What will happen if I don't stop it there, then bad habits come back and get use to crappy feeling, and then it is tough to start over.

So for me, logging meals leads to better life.

that is so freakin true. i find when i do log my meals even if only for 2-3 weeks consistently i feel better, train better etc. then if i fall off from a hectic schedule you feel tried, skip a workout here or there and DEF. bad habits rear their ugly head.

right now, im not really tracking what i eat. i have a list of accepatable foods and i just pick one of them when im hungry . i am tracking workouts, i am using needsizes 5x5, and its kinda of important for that

How ironic... I just printed out log forms today.. I've never used them before for weights, only for meals.. when I did them for meals it was HARDER to cheat, the thought of having to look at that log book and realize I could see my goals slip made it alot harder to go against my smarts and eat shitty.

I keep a log, like to take updated pics every once in a while and add them in. I feel they work pretty good and they help keep me from slacking off on my workouts

I just keep an Excel spreadsheet on my computer. I have a tab for each body part (chest, shoulders, arms, legs) and for each day, I add line items by exercise and poundage, reps, sets, etc.

Every day I write down my poundage goals on a piece of paper and take it to the gym so that I can remember what I am going to try to achieve. I also write down what I actually did and enter that back in my spreadsheet when I get back. I can then use this information to set goals for my next workout for that bodypart.

Right now my logs are almost everything. I just started about 3 1/2 months ago, and I'm not seeing too much in the mirror. But when I look back at my logs, and realize how much more I'm lifting in every category, I know that it's just going to take some time. I also record my measurements once a week, and it's nice to look back and see the gains in size that I can't see in the mirror.

But hey, if you're getting the best results you've ever had right now, then why change it?
