Any women here get their Periods for 7 days straight??

I know this is the ladies forum but I was curious to know this. My g/f seems to be one of the rare cases where she gets her period for 7 days straight and when PMSing she has the worst cramps that she has to be drugged up and in bed. I feel so sorry to her but at the same time I love her and feel sorry for myself because I pretty much go through it with her every month tending to her needs. Dont get me worng, it's not like I am making it sound like I am doing it cause I have to or anything because I do it because I want to.

Anyhow, anyone else have this type of problem or know of anyone who does??

how old is she? is she on the pill? if her cramps are that severe and her cycles are that heavy, she should maybe speak with her gynocologist about it. that's where i'd start.

She is 23 and not on the pill. She has tried several different types of pills and they make her sick to her stomach. Her mom has her period the same but I dont think her cramps are the same though. Is this something that she is gonna have forever or can it be fixed??

if she's getting anemic from it, i'd say go see her gynocologist. is the flow heavy all seven days? some women do get their period all 7 some less, some longer. it all depends on the individual. but like i said, if it's seriously effecting the way she lives, go talk to her doctor.

Well she pretty much has a normal period like everyone else except it is extended over a 7 day period. She has had this since the beginning and I was just curious if there was anyone else with the same problem or if anyone knew if it can be corrected?

Thanks for the help though I aprreciate it!!

I've been on the pill for about 2 years now. The reason I started taking the pill was because I would have my period sporatically (sp?) or sometimes would never have it. So the doc put me on them to be on a regular cycle. Now I have period for about 5-7 days and never miss. But some women just normally have their periods for long amounts of time. My mother used to have bad ones and miss days of work because of the pain. It's just something you have to deal with. Like Sana said if it really is affecting her then she should seek a doc.

I used to be even worse than that -
I'd bleed for a minimum of 9-10 days - most of the time longer -
The doctor put me on the pill and it helps a little - but after some testing, it turns out that I have endometriosis.
You might want to tell your girlfriend to ask her doctor about it -
I suffered for YEARS!! until finally I switched doctors and after some further testing, realized what it was.
Seriously - make sure she gets to a doctor - because if it is Endometriosis - it affects fertility.
Hope this helps....

My period prior to starting the pill lasted 7 days ALWAYS! Plus I had horrible cramps that I ended up missing school over.

After starting the pill the cramps ceased a little and my periods went to 5 days...

Sorry to hear she's going through this, I know how much it sucks. Definitly check into the endo part of this, it's very serious and she needs to catch it as soon as she can!

I thought that the average cycle was 5-7 days? So I'm pretty sure it's normal. Cramps are just one of the many wonderful side effects, and I have lots of friends that are literally in bed the whole first day of there period. It really does suck, but it's the price we pay for being women

dreamgirl is on a distinguished road
my periods are 7 days, the first two being very heavy and by the end super light but still there. actually I read someone suggested that it could be endometriosis and it was exactly what I was thinking... my roomate in college had it. I know about 5 women who have it. With severe cramps, that's always an issue.

I know a lot of women are on the pill, but I really don't believe in it. You aren't getting a true period, you end up never releasing any eggs the entire time you are on it. More and more women are seeking help from fertility specialists and it's caused by something... It's just my opinion.
