Diet for my gf with Hypothyroidism

I am trying to develop a leaning diet for my girlfriend, but she suffers from an underactive thyroid. I was hoping I could get some help from anyone who knows about that type of thing, I know about diets and working out, but know nothing about diets with thyroid problems.

Her stats:
5' 4"
117lbs
25%ish bf
Working out 3-4 times a week for year and a half.

Good responder.

She has never had a diet, and just kinda eats what she wants. She has gotten in a more healty mindset, but still has the occasional junk food binges.

I wanna do her a 60% pro 20% carbs 20% fat diet, but not sure how that would affect her thyroid.

She currently takes pig thyroid to balance out the problem too.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thans

Well, if she is on medication for the problem, and the medication is working, then the diet should have no impact either way. You say she pretty much just eats what she wants....Well, is it possible that she may be misdiagnosed? With the stats and info you gave us, that is very possible. She's the typical American girl as far as weight, height and BF is concerned. Why is she not on a stricter diet if she has this condition?

My second question is- why do you want to put her on such high protein amounts? It doesn't sound as though she is a BBer, or is even looking to add mass. I think a better split for her would be a 40/30/30. That way, it will be easier for her to follow, and she has a lesser chance of gaining the weight back. The kind of diet or nutrients she eats has no effect on her thyroid. The thyroid's function regulates her metabolism and how the body metabolizes nutrients. She has to do her part as well with a good diet and exercise.

^^^If the doc were to be diagnosing strictly off of signs/symptoms, it's possible to misdiagnose, but if hypothyroidism is suspected, blood work would be taken to make the Dx and that would not cause a miss.

She has had it for years, and has to get blood work done every 6 monhs to make sure her prescription is right and the dosage is correct.

She wants to compete next April in a figure competition, and is looking to lean out now and see how she looks/feels, then work on building some muscle back up before dieting down for the show.

Guess I should have put that in my first statement Thanks guys.
