Biggest loser

Well, I signed up today to do the Biggest Loser contest here at work. Winner gets something like $250. It's for 10 weeks...my goal is 2 lbs a week...which I think is really attainable. 50% of the people who signed up won't stick to it anyway, LOL. I gotta get the rest of this baby weight off, and then some. It keeps me accountable for sure. If you gain weight, you owe $1, and you weigh in every Monday morning. I weighed in with all of my clothes & shoes on this morning!!

Now, I have my training & diet regimen pretty much lined out. Here is what the 1st 6 weeks look like:

Week 1: Mon- Fri: weights. M/W/F: 40 min cardio. T/Th/Sat: PX90
Week 2: SAME
Week 3: SAME except for 45 min cardio sessions
Week 4: SAME except adding PX90 on Sunday
Week 5: Mon-Fri: weights. M/W-PX90 @ lunch, then 20 min PWO. 45 min cardio T/F. Th/Sat/Sun PX90
Week 6: Same, but increased PWO cardio to 25 min.

Food will be pretty much like this, and probably will stay the same for the 1st 6weeks:

M1: 1 Whole egg, 3 whites. 1/2 c. oatmeal
M2: 5 oz chicken, 6oz sweet potato, green beans
M3: apple w/ 2 tbsp natural PB
M4: Fish & veggies
M5: Shake

Now, I like to indulge in the occasional cocktail, but that will be curbed as well. But, I have plans to go to the casino this weekend with the girls, and I know there will be cocktails involved. So, my question is- what/how can I drink that will have the least amount of impact on my body? I know the answer is don't drink, but I'm trying to be realistic.

My husband's workout partner says it's unbelievable...that I would be really hard pressed to NOT lose weight when using it. He said its SUPER hard, and each time he does it, he is drenched in sweat.

Well, I'm typically a vodka drinker.

But, I thought that any alcohol wreaks havoc on your metabolism- for like 3-4 days AFTER you drink? Is that true? Is there anything I can do to jump start my metabolism to not let that happen?

a few drinks wont cause much harm. getting drunk a few nights in a row will though. best thing you can do is just have a few.

From my understanding, your body burns off all the alcohol in your system before it you can burn off fat. So the second you start drinking, you stop burning off fat and start using the alcohol and its sugars for energy. Once you stop, you will lose approximately .015 of BAC per hour after. So if you have three glasses of wine over two hours, it will take about another 4 hours or so before it is cleaned from your system. Si it prevents fat loss.

As for the best thing to drink, vodka or gin are the best choices. Mixed with club soda.

Red,

I remembered an article I had bookmarked on a friends computer, so I had her send it to me about alcohol and fat/weightloss.

"The bottom line is, the idea that alcohol just automatically turns into fat or gives you a beer belly is mistaken. It’s true that alcohol suppresses fat oxidation, but mainly, alcohol adds calories into your diet, messes with your hormones and can stimulate appetite, leading to even more calories consumed. That’s where the fat gain comes from."

Why Some People Can Drink Alcohol Without Getting Fat

Thanks!!!

Well, it was a freaking GREAT time. I paid for it on Sunday, but great all the same. I did make it a point to NOT get any junk food late Saturday night or Sunday. I stuck to the diet just about as well as I could considering.

Just weighed in this morning- fully clothed, same as last week...lost 2 lbs. 9 more weeks to go. If I lose 20lbs I'll be really happy...throw in a little water trick & a little laxative the days before, and it should be in the bag!

Although one girl lost NINE freaking pounds?!?? I know much of it is water, but still pisses me off. And, most people won't stick to it for the whole 10 weeks.

Any biggest loser contest I have heard about from friends ends up with less than half the people still in it at the end. The typical person loses interest after a few weeks. I am sure you will be fine, being that you enjoy fitness. Godd luck

***Weekly update...

Only down 1 lb. I've been busting my ass, so I was NOT happy. Then I had sonis do my BF- down 3 mm!! So, something negative turned into a positive...that pretty much tells me my body is back to retaining the muscle & my metabolism is really going. But- that's not what's going to win this contest...

So- I've switched my workouts to be circuits or drop sets- keeping the heart rate up. I'm also doing 45 min of cardio 5 times a week, and 2 am sessions of 20 min. Pulled some calories as well. I don't need to build muscle anyway.

There are some fatter people who weigh more so I gotta kick it into high gear. I'm 5th place out of 12 right now. They had big losses the first week, good losses last week..

Good luck red - I wish I had a deal like this , I'm trying to find a training partner as is - helps me stay on point - having something like this to keep you on the steady is awesome. If nothing else you will leave with a body that will be firmer than ever. Good luck.

Thanks!

Yeah, it for sure holds you accountable..and they buy in was only $20! So, if $20 is all it costs me to look & feel better & still not win, I'll be ok with it.

In fact, I pulled on a pair of pants today that I haven't worn in a year and half- now THAT'S a good feeling. I can see changes in my belly area too...I just really hope that area gets tightened up...somehow.

HA! Weighed in today, down 4 LBS!! I'm tied for 3rd. If I keep having weeks like this, I should be giving the leader a run for her money.

And, everyone else who dropped a ton in the beginning is starting to level out...their big weeks are now turning into 2lbs or 1 lb a week. There's really only 1 threat left, I think. She's a bigger girl than I am, so it's easier for her to lose...I'm just hoping she can't sustain the weight loss. I mean, she's doing weight watchers for chrissake.

It's funny- it's almost not even fair. There are these idiots who I'm friends with who bounce stuff off me all the time. One girl asked me last week if a piece of cheese rolled in a piece of lunch meat is a good snack. And then I told her I'll blow everyone's doors off this week w/ my weight loss. She got all pissy when she asked how i would do it if I'm eating the same amt of calories. I told her 1- that I wouldn't tell her the tricks, and 2- there are too many variables that I know how to play with. LOL

Good stuff - I was going to ask you how you were gonna pull it off because I considered most people you run into aren't nearly where you are with fitness. So for them loosing weight would be walking up the stairs haha.. but seems to be working for you - congrats. "cheese rolled in a piece of lunch meat" - - it will all be over soon

Down 2 lbs.. Of course weigh in was the day after Super Bowl. I didn't eat horrible- but I could totally tell I was bloated.

Someone else has pushed to the front- but word on the street she was on some medication that was making her hold water...so we will see next week.

I've changed my diet a little- took carbs out at lunch 4 days a week, and no nuts with my evening shake...I'm also doing 50 min of cardio now 5 days a week, and have added two30 min sessions on Sat & Sun. Goal this week is another 4 lbs...

BWAHAHA. That's hilarious! Thanks, though. I love her to pieces!!

So, I started my 50 minutes of cardio this week, done 3 days so far...but the scale doesn't seem to be moving, right? Well, I had sonis do my BF last night, and I've lost 3% BF in 2 weeks- great results! But, I can't understand why my weight isn't dropping...I'm working out fast- keeping the heart rate up, and my reps are 12+..PLUS the 7 days of cardio..

Who knows- depending on how it goes, maybe I'll hop up on stage later this year...

That's alright- sonis is gonna write me a diet for the last 4 weeks. Fish 3 times a week, 2 carb meals, and NO cheating. He's guaranteeing 15 lbs loss...if it's close, I'm gonna have to do the water trick...

Alright...now I'm pissed. Now granted, I didn't eat as cleanly as I should have over the weekend. BUT- I cut out nuts totally with my evening shake, and carb cycled a couple days. AND, started 50+ minutes of cardio a day. I'm losing BF, but I'm not losing weight...it's making me very angry. Only 1.5 lbs lost this week.
