eating disorders... the horrow

this is a reply to something dreamgirl wrote a few months ago... I'd be happy to answer questions for anyone who is out there, I have spent years studying nutrition and eating disorders.

hi, i was looking through old posts and saw some stuff about your sister - I also have/had an eating disorder (I'm currently recovering) and from looking @ your pictures I'd say your sister has a serious problem. You can be not grossly thin and still be a huge danger to yourself - even if she was 120 lbs, eating as she is plus the cardio puts serious stress on the heart and other organs, which can lead to heart attack and death without any real signs of it. I was 130 lbs, and even though my body fat was even at a high level, my body was so stressed after 5 years of anorexia and bulemia that I couldn't go a few months without either a serious illness or a serious injury. i went through a series of illnesses that periodically put me in the med center before they told me I just had to eat... and eat... and eat until I was full. let my body rebound and recover - its the hardest thing I ever did and I am still dealing with it. I hit 180 lbs - I'm still fighting to come down a pound a week right now, but my body is fighting to hold on to this weight, even though it is unhealthy. my point is, this is not something I would wish on anyone, and the sooner you catch and correct the less damage one does. the problem is she probably already had hit the point where she had suppressed her metabolism, and if she eats normally, even just the bare minimum to maintain her weight by all rights, she'll at least temporarily put on weight - for a eating disorder, that's as close as hell as you can come. i'd be happy to answer any questions for you, or even answer some for her. it's a daily hell that I live with now, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I hate being this heavy, and i have to fight daily to make sure I eat enough, that I don't binge and purge. it's tough, and its normally a sign of inner troubles beyond it. anyways, I hope all is well...
