It would be unbecoming of me to criticize anyone else of not giving to any specific charitable cause without knowing the full details of what else they are doing. There are many just causes around the world and I think it is unseemly to be excoriating someone for thinking differently from oneself.

You're making the naive assumption they both happened at the same time.

Even if you had the infection for a while you might loose a finger and if you are bleeding from gun shot wound you'll die with in minutes and right now japan is bleeding profusely.

I agree with take care our own first but you have to look at it like paper cut vs gun shot wound. Sometimes you have to stop crying about your paper cut and go help the one with a gun shot wound. You can always come back and continue to help your own but at the moment japan has a nuclear bomb size of wound vs US's paper cut.
