I know, gay huh?

Countdown; 14 hours, 30 minutes.

In the last 7+ years I have smoked daily. I have decided at nearly 30 years old it is time to give it up for numerous reasons.

For the next 3 weeks I will be checking in on this thread nightly to keep myself accountable.

If anyone has any tips for the coming 21 days I would appreciate it. I have quit cigarettes after years of heavy smoking, quit opiate painkillers which was a bitch to detox off of. The weed is mainly pyschologically addictive which is what I have struggled with. My problem with weed is that 1 is too many, 100 is not enough.

Good for you bro. I know when I was young (high school) I never had paranoia when I smoked weed. But as I got a little older I did. To the point where it wasn't fun anymore. I haven't smoked in way over a decade and don't miss it.

Cool shit bro.

But Didnt you just send me a pm like 3 days ago saying "its 4/20 relax and smoke some weed bro!" lmao

anyway, what has always worked for me is the mental mind set that weed or any other rec drug would poisen my body and make muscle and quility muscle gains harder. if you cant breath right in the gym and your oxygen levels is lower then the training suffers.

just suppliment rec drugs with massive amounts of hormonas!!!

Reasons to Stop Smoking Pot

Aug 11, 2011 | By Linda Ray

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the United States. The main ingredient that provides an altered state, or high, is called THC. THC, or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, is a chemical that passes though the lungs into the bloodstream and affects the brain and other organs.

Brain

Cellular changes take place in the brain when marijuana, or pot, is smoked. NIDA researchers have found that THC impairs mainly those areas of the brain that produce thoughts, concentration and memory, which are valid reasons to stop smoking pot. Additionally, cannabis influences the pleasure sensors, making it attractive to those with addictive tendencies. Distorted perceptions, difficulty solving problems and poor coordination last for days or weeks after the high wears off. Those who smoke pot daily operate at subpar levels at all times.

Long-term

Over time, the long-term effects on the brain are cumulative, and pot smokers risk brain damage equal to those who take harder drugs like heroin or cocaine. The NIDA says that withdrawal from smoking pot sets up stress centers in the brain that control the brain's use of dopamine, or pleasure sensors. Addiction to the drug can result from long-term pot smoking. Drug addiction can adversely affect all areas of an addict's life, including social functioning, work, relationships and hobbies, according to a report from University Health Services at the University of Wisconsin.

Psychological Effects

NIDA studies have shown marked increases in depression, anxiety and suicide in pot smokers. Researchers are not sure whether marijuana use exacerbates an existing mental illness or causes it. Those with violent tendencies or a genetic disposition to psychological problems are more likely to experience mental breakdowns if they smoke pot. The studies NIDA reported have directly linked marijuana use to schizophrenia.

Respiratory System

Smoking pot causes serious damage to the lungs and respiratory system. The NIDA reports that marijuana has 50 to 70 more carcinogens in it than tobacco products do. Deep inhalation of the smoke adds to the level of carcinogens exposed to the lungs. Studies, however, have not been able to link pot smoking with the development of lung cancer. The American Council for Drug Education reports that instead, pot smokers have many of the symptoms of cigarette smokers, including persistent cough, bronchitis, emphysema and other respiratory illnesses.

Heart

When marijuana is inhaled, the heart rate increases by as much as 100 percent. This condition can last for up to four hours after smoking the drug. Pot smokers have a high risk of having a heart attack within one hour of smoking weed, the NIDA reports. Older pot smokers with already weakening cardiac systems are at an even higher risk of heart failure from smoking pot.

Growth either stop or don't bro.

Like a fat person pigging out before a diet, that person is already defeated before they start.

I thought the title of this thread meant that you have been clean for 3 weeks and want to quit for good.

But now I see you meant you have been smoking this whole time and you want to quit for only 21 days.

Lmfao wtf?!?!

Yes, don't self-defeat yourself by going on a binge right before "quitting."

I would like to quit permanently. If I can make it 21 days without smoking then I have defeated my addiction. Again, the last of what I had was enjoyed yesterday negative Nancy's.

Day 1--No wake/bake this am. Anxiety despite 20m of am cardio 1st thing. Usually the first few days my head races, sleeping becomes difficult, etc. I believe days 4-7 are usually the toughest.

This thread did a complete nose dive.

It is fucking pot, stop or don't stop.

A montha ago you were bragging about how it helped workouts, you are a good student, making millions by 23. Now it is some evil drug that has ruined your relationships blah blah blah, conplete with a bullet list of what you will accomplish if you quit.

IMO, you can change everything on that list while smoking or not. Those are choices just like smoking. All of this shit is internal in your mind, you don't need a drug to mess up or mend relationship, it is YOUR choice.

From the age of 12 to 19 I smoked morning, noon, and night. By 14 I was selling about 10lbs a week and smoking up to an ounce a week. One day when my best friend got arrested, I made a conscious decision to stop the bullshit and join the military. I stopped long enough to pass their piss test then started right back up until the day I shipped out.

It was hell but it had nothing to do with weed "withdrawal" it was the culture shock of going from pure freedom to no freedom and 19hr days of mentally and physically exhaustive training.

Ouch. I believe what I said was that I loved to smoke before workouts and always did. I did get a bachelors degree while smoking throughout but wouldn't say good student. Never made millions but I was fortunate/unfortunate to earn good money at a young age. I never said it is some evil drug that has ruined my relationships?

I listed reasons for quitting as a reference, or reminder when I get the urge to smoke.

BLM, you are right. Quitting Opiates and heavy cigarette smoking for years was much easier than giving up weed for me.

If it offends you, feel free to not read.

Thanks for all the positivity though

Growth, a question I wanted to ask you earlier.... how's your wife with your goal of stopping weed? Is she on your case to stop? If she is smoking while you are trying to quit, it is going to be harder. Regardless, come on bro, you need to man up here.

It's dead because now you want everyone to shut up. It's not tough to live anywhere, that's ridiculous. You sound like you're 13 and trying to justify peer pressure.

I'm right there with you man. Weed sounds like a silly thing to be detoxing from, but when you've smoked the shit for 15+ years, every single day it is tough. My wife says I'm a huge asshole now that I don't smoke, but she's glad I'm taking steps to quit.

My main reason was for training and my kids are getting older. Unless my low testosterone problem at 32 is genetic, I think it could be from blazing every day for so many years.

It's really tough when I get off work too. That used to be my time to go outside and light one up after work. Now it's like I don't know what to do.
