  • Tendon and Ligament Flexibility?

I am a PT and have a client who is TERRIBLY tight and unflexible, not old at all either. Is there any supplements he can take to create more flexibility in his ligaments and tendons?

If not, what do you think would be best to do for him. He has tons of imbalances.

If you're a PT then you should know that stretching everyday would be a necessity for this person. Also Yoga would be good for your client.

Some people have a very limited ability to gain flexibility...it's genetic, and even doing a lot of stretching will only only provide modest improvements. Keep this in mind when setting goals for this individual...they might get discouraged if they fall into this category if you set the bar too high.

I know this because I see it in my own family. My father is incredibly inflexible....I'm about average, but my younger brother is stiff as a board just like dad. The thing is, my bro is a highly trained athlete...a hockey player that lifts and stretches 5 or 6 days per week. He's been stretching for years, and he's still not very flexible.

I stretched for 10 years+ during my years training in ku mu kwon, a Korean martial art.
The number one reason people dropped out was because of the stretching--it was painful as all hell.

Stretching, daily at least 5 days a week, IMO is the #1 way to help a person become more flexible. But of course, as you know, age, genetics / build all make a difference to the extent of flexibility gained.

there is a form of yoga that is practiced in a super hot room, 100+. For your client, heat or a lot of biking/running warmups before daily stretching will help. Unfortunately, all the time required may discourage him.

Yeah...good idea...because personal trainers are supposed to injure their clients.
