I couldn't believe it when my father approached me about possibly running a cycle. He's 62yrs old and in excellent shape. He has run marathons as recently as 2 yrs ago and has weight trained for 30yrs. He won the masters division in our state powerlifting meet about 15yrs ago. He's 5'8" and 175lbs. If I had to guess I'd say his bf is 15%. He told me he wanted to put on more muscle since he's losing some and hopefully increase his libido. What do you guys think? Should I tell him to go for it or not? Hell, it makes me proud to have a dad that still takes care of himself and still wants to improve. If you guys think he should, help me lay out a basic cycle for him.

At 62 years old I believe he is to old to start AAS. Something like HGH would be good for him at a low dose. As for the libido, tell him to go to the Doc, there are definitly many things out there for that. But no, I wouldnt feel good about recomeding steroids to a 62 year old man.

I agree, but he needs a full blood work and physical before doing anything. At his age cycling is a bad idea, especailly if he has liver and/or kidney problems which he may not know that he has. The doctor can give himn Andro-gel which would prolly be a good idea as hormone replacement only.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER

DOCTOR DOCTOR DOCTOR DOCTOR DOCTOR
Body like to remain in homeostasis, ie, a state tha it operates optimally at.
If you run AS when your young, the body has incredible rejuvenation powers due to still high GH. So, you can be sloppy with it and still come out well.
At 62, messing with homeostasis is not something to take lightly.
He needs not only a doctor, buy and extremely experienced doctor.
There are just so many more things that have to be monitored and watched.
So, in closing, go to a doctor. Anything else run a high probability of problems.
Hoped That Helped
Good Luck

Well bro just think about it. Organs at that age are not working as great as they were when they were in there 20's. All levels of hormones are much lower then they were in there 20's. So introducing new compounds at that age is much more of a hit on the body then when we were young.Originally posted by Bdubb
In which way does old age play a role in AAS? Is it the extra stress on the body or something else? I'm just curious about this, if anyone cares to explain it more to me.
Thanks,
B

If anything, HGH might be the way to go, after he's checked out by a doctor of course. I think it's just a matter of time before it's very common for men over the age of 50 to be prescribed growth. I know a doctor who has taken growth for years, and at 56 years old the guy looks 40.

I will say get a full checkup from his doc and take it from there. 65 years old isn't even old anymore. as long as he is functioning and he hasn't had any chronic problems throughout his life then what the fuck, he isn't getting any younger and if he wants to increase his standard of living then I say go for it with the full consent of the doctor.

OLD? WTF?
Who in the hell determines what "OLD" is. Age is just a number, only a gauge as to how long you've lived. It doesn't have a thing to do with your body falling apart. Sure, you can't outrun "Father Time", but you sure as hell can keep him from catching you too fast. I'm 56 and I can pretty much do the same things did 25 years ago, and some things even better. Mainly because I have trained for those 25 years, ate right and took care of nyself. ALL MY PARTS STILL WORK JUST FINE, lol. I can still bench over 300 lbs. at 5"11" and 205lbs. 12%BF. From my neck down I look better than most 30 year olds, and that's no shit. Sun and gravity did take a bit of a toll on my face and neck, so I had "The Works" done by an amazing Plastic Surgeon, which knocked many years off my appearance. Yea, it cost me about $40 G's, but it was worth it too me. In reference to AAS, I do 200mg test enanthate EVERY week, then about every 3 months I go to 400mgs/wk and 20 mgs. Anavar for about 10 weeks. The Anavar really screws my cholesterol up, so more than 10 weeks is dangerous for me. I have lab work done every 6 months just to keep an eye on everything. It hasn't bothered me at all, and if anything, has improved the quality of my life greatly. I've been doing this for over 2 years and have had no ill effects. As you know, someone my age produces very little testosterone, so I get it elsewhere. There are many "Longevity Clinics" doing the same thing I am at about ten times the price. There have been many studies in "elderly, lol" men who are given test regularily and the benefits are obvious in the results. So, if your dad is healthy, a little test from a vial will only do him good. HGH will help too, but IMO it's not worth the price compared to test. bb

Are we talking about HRT or a bigger cycle, like for bulking? Of course, it would all depend upon the desired dosages but the two things that come to my mind are:
1) can his liver take the shot of AAS with little risk?
2) the other thing that I would think as a concern would be the effects on his prostrate (benign prostrate hypertrophy) when introducing his body to a test cycle. Although there have been no conclusive links between AAS use and prostate cancer, BPH might be a legitimate concern with your pop.
Probably most docs won't recommend him going on a cycle even if his liver and prostate are in excellent shape so I would try to find a doctor that deals more with endocrinology than a regular general practicioner. Comprehensive bloodwork would have to be performed prior, during and after cycle for a safety evaluation.
