what is the powder weight of EQ, is it closer to 1. last time I seemed to underestimate so I had too much liquid at the end of the coversion. I was thinking maybe almost to .95 or 1 this time since it is liquid. am I right in thinking this?

not sure what you mean by weight it out. I have the accurate amount in grams of how much EQ i have, I just need to know the volume displacment of it.Originally posted by spidey
I usually assume a density of 0.85 for any powder (actually, I usually weigh it out accurately anyway but when an assumption is required...).

Isn't EQ an oil at room temp? I have never actually dealt with it before.
Why don't you dissolve it in the BA and BB and then draw the mixture up into a syringe to measure the volume? I would add about half the oil you think it would require before doing this. Pure BA/BB may melt the plastic syringe somewhat.

Oh I see thanks buddy I didn't even think about that but it should have been obvious to me if I thought about it for one sec. LOLOriginally posted by spidey
Oh, I get it. I usually dissolve my powder in the BA/BB and measure that volume by drawing the solution up into a pipette.
Still, when an assumption is called for, I use 0.85 for the density. That means 850mg powder would take up 1mL in volume.

Be sure to measure correctly. If nothing else, you might want to err to the side of too much EQ. :DOriginally posted by stonecold54

you might want to double check this but I think eq is 1.18g per ml in liquid form or .848ml per gram witch is just what spid uses as an estament
If I have to esamate a powder through I assume a lower value of .75ml per gram just so that I don't short myself. But like spidey was talking about filling to volume is the easiest way to do itLast edited by Skyefire; 07-29-04, 04:16 AM.

1ml of eq = about 1.15 g....this is the "powder" weight.
However, when Eq is dissolved in soultion noone really knows what the value is. I, like Spidey, use 0.85 for most powders.......but if you assume the displacemnet to be 1ml(in your calcs) this would slightly overdose you final product(which is a good thing) then you can further dilute it to you calcualted dose.

Here is an easy way to do it completely accurately with no guesswork:
For argument's sake, let's say we have 10g powder (or EQ oil) and we want a final concentration of 300mg/mL with 1% BA and 20%BB (my standard recipe). This means the final volume will be 33.3 mL.
A graduated cylinder would come in handy here (can get from science surplus stores) but a large test tube or any small glass container will do.
Measure 23.3 mL water (with a plastic syringe) into the glass container and mark the level on the outside with a marker. Empty and dry the container.
Now, put in the 10 g EQ oil and add 0.33 mL BA and 6.7 mL BB. Warm with a hairdryer and swirl until all is dissolved and you have a clear solution. Add oil to the mark and swirl to get a clear solution. Filter this oil solution through a 0.2 micron sterile filter into a sterile vial. Now, wash the empty glass container with 5 mL oil and filter that into your vial. Finally, push another 5 mL clean oil through the filter into your vial to flush the filter and you now have 33.3 mL EQ solution that is 300mg/mL, 1% BA and 20% BB.

I put the powder or liquid in equipoises case in the oven in a beaker with the ba and bb and then add oil up to the desired amount on the side of the beaker minus the 5cc filter purge at the end.
I get within 1% of the total intended volume that way, plus I heat my gear at 250 degrees for 20 minutes....it makes it go through the .20 micron filter with no fuss.
