  • Importance of Aspirating

I've seen a few posts where people have downplayed the importance of aspirating when going into the glute.

Today, I inserted a 23 g, 1.5" needle into my glute to inject 1.5cc's of prop. When I pulled back the plunger, I got a syringe full of blood. I pulled out the needle and injected about a half an inch high on the glute with no problems.

I've seen guys say that "out of thousands of pokes, I've only drawn blood once." This was somewhere around my 60th injection.

    Always aspirate.

:agree: A couple seconds is worth a couple years of your life.

Why do you think that is?

For me, I really wasn't confident that I was aspirating correctly. I would pull back on the plunger, see the air bubbles get bigger (so I knew I was creating pressure), then, if no blood, inject. But, I really didn't know if I was pulling back hard enough or for a long enough period of time.

Now I know, when you're in a vein, the blood comes into the syringe with ease.

Probably laziness. Lot of people just want to get it over with once the needle is in. Probably don't like the idea that they have to pull out and stick themselves again either. I honestly don't know when it comes down to something as serious as that. Almost the same as making sure there's no air bubbles in your syringe when you fill up.

Good point. A few years ago I let someone hit me in the glute. They got blood when they pulled back. When they pulled out to try again blood squirted all over my kitchet floor. Granted I was using a 21 g. needle, but I had no idea there was an an artery anywhere near there. (I am assuming it was an artery due to 4 foot plume of blood). Needless to say it was good that I aspirated.

There is an artery in your ass, but I think it's more in the lower middle of the glute and not on the sides.

don't pull to hard on the plunger or you will collapse the vein and you might get a false reading of not being in the vein but you really are. you just need a slight amount of pressure and you will see blood if you are in it.

I have gotten blood 4 times out of about 100 injections . Asperate every time! no matter what. three of the four were in the glute one time from a bi hit.

I have done 5 years of injections and probably over 1000 shots and only drawn blood once. I injected some oil into a vein once even after I aspirated becasue I didn't see any blood, had me coughing up a lung when I did it. :(

it's definetly important to do, i can go a hundred shots without drawing blood sometimes and then one time i drew blood 2x in 2 days so you should aspirate every single time

I tend to only aspirate when I shoot anywhere else BUT my glutes. Never drawn blood but I've always been curious what exactly happens when oil gets into the blood stream?

if feels like your lung capacity went from 100% to about 20% not a very pleasant feeling.

I took a shot today of 3mls of test cyp and realized I couldnt aspirate because the plunger was already all the way back. I went ahead and injected. I pulled the needle out and thought it was fine a few seconds later I felt something run down my ass onto the back of my leg. I put my hand there and felt wetness and looked at my hand. it was covered with blood. I felt ok though just a bit faint from the sight of my blood. I was worried I hit a veign but I didnt feel a rush or anything heart beat stayed same so I dont know what happened. But it really scared me. I even think a little oil came out as well with blood. anyone with a similiar experience?
