  • PEG what is....

Can someone actually tell me the difference between PEG 200, 300, 400, 500 & 600? Beside the viscosity difference's? and is there any real difference between them?

    Thanks

PEG=polyethylene glycol. It is a polymer. Polymers are molecules with repeating subunits and they are defined in part by their molecular weights. PEG=HOCH2CH2OCH2CH2OCH2CH2....ETC.

The number in PEG200 (and others) refers to it's average molecular weight. PEG300 has an average molecular weight of 300 atomic mass units.

The differences in physical properties will be that the lower the molecular weight, the less viscous it will be and the lower its boiling point will be.
