  • filtering issues

Started with ten reels of Synovex. Dissolved in MeOH with slight heat until completly dissolved. Filtered this through a coffee filter to seperate binders.

Added estrogen solubolizer. Let set with mangetic stirrer for an hour.

Added DI water to solution and allowed to set about 45 min.

All was well thus far, but I then tried to filter out the TP and it took forever. I had to set up three Bukener Funnels(still using a coffee filter as well) and it still took awhile.

Couldn't figure why it took so long?

Once filtered, I rinsed and squeezed out most of water. Placed in a heating cabinet at about 80 degrees celcius.

Weighing product I yielded only about 25%.

Couldn't figure what the hell went wrong.

    Any thoughts? Thanks

I have never used a syno kit so I am guessing here but maybe you used too much methanol or didn't add enough water to completely precipitate the product.

Maybe Skyefire can shed some light on this.

Ok, first sorry I missed this for so long. I am not sure why you only got a 25% converson but there are a couple of posibilties here

      1. you used too much MA or didn't add enough water to cause all the TNE to fall out of soluiton. If that is the case most of it went through the filter.

      2. You added the water too fast and made a very fine powder in the water that the filter could not catch. this would also account for the dificulty in fitlering the product.

To prevent these propblems in the future always use the correct amounts of water and alcohol. check the stickies for more info

here is a neat treak to use for filtering. Instead of adding the distiled water directly to the alcohol freeze an excess amount the night before and alow it to slowly melt into your alcohol/test solution. This slow addition of the water will cause large crystals to form and this be very easy to filter. It will also increase your yeild.

      Good luck bro

I believe that I used approximatly 80-100 mls of MeOH and a Liter of DI. I added it rather slowly. Probably over the span of 1-2 minutes. I guess that is rather fast compared to ice melting though. I felt that everything went fine until filtering. The shit just wouldn't go through the filter.

Thanks for your help. I imagine that I'll try the ice cube method. By the way is a coffee filter the best thing to use. That's what I used.

only use the coffee filter if your using the ice or other large crystal methods as the pores in a coffee filter are compareable huge.

Try the ice method, I think it was just your filtering that went bad here.
