  • Glucophage

I just found out my mom is on this stuff, as I was perusing through our medicine cabinet. Anyone know anything about this stuff, like dosages for a weightlifter. Im guessing one would take it with your post workout shake???

It's used to treat Type 2 diabetes (non insulin dependant diabetes mellitus). Why do you want to take, just to increase insulin sensitivty?

I've never taken it. I have no need. I don't see why someone would want to take w/o a medical reason. It doesn't cause an increase in insulin levels.

I don't know, maybe if you used it during carb up (post work out) for glycogen compensation.

That wasn't a very "discouraging" link.

True, but it's basically what he wanted to know.. I also wanted to try it out, but since I go into hypo too damn easily these days, I changed my mind..

I'm sure anyone with real experience can explain the good, bad, and ugly of this product.. :)

Glucophage is great for upping insulin sensitivity, and that link was written by Big A, owner of professionalmuscle, my home board - he's an IFBB pro who really, really, knows his shit.

I've used it only once and I think it is superior to ALA in terms of helping with carb absorbtion/insulin regulation. Never used R-ala so can't comment on that. And yes, it can make you queasy but I found that taking it right before eating greatly reduced/eliminates this (kind of like taking ALA before eating, since I get heart burn taking it after I eat).

I get me some more come to think of it!

                        hope that helps,
