It think if they were after you that they would not have asked if they could sit in your back yard for a few days first. If it was you they wanted you would have answered the door to a search warrent.

And they'd be sitting in your neighbors back yard instead. :D

Who knows, you might get a reward of some sort for helping the Federal Government
Get a reward? From the Feds?
I'd mearly be lucky if this ends w/o costing me anything. About the only time you cross paths with the Federal government is when they want money from you or want to incarcerate you.
In this case I think I'll only end up losing some short term privacy.

ill use a quote from The Lost Boys.....
"never invite a vampire into your house silly boy......it renders you powerless"
You basically gave them rights bro......kinda like when a cop asks if he can search your car and you say "sure!" even though theres a pound of coke in the trunk.......well not the same thing, but where does your logic come from to think that they are not aware of your activities?
the fact that they ASKED means they needed your permission to enter, meaning they didnt have a warrant.....i woulda said no b/c how i do i know my neighbor wont retaliate against me for letting the authorities use my place to build a case against him, you shoulda said "hey if you guys get a warrant then i will glady let you in but i cant willingly do so for fear of retaliation."
That would be a genuine concern of mine but mainly i would say no since hmmmm i dunno the fact that you have brought illegal drugs accross the border?

This whole deal sounds pretty fishy. I don't think that it's a good idea to post on this stuff here for now. It could be construed as interfering or compromising an investigation. It IS possible that these feds are monitoring your communications (overtly or covertly) to ensure that you don't tip off your neighbor to any investigative procedures. Keep in mind that under the current provisions of the Patriot Act, only a bench warrant needs to be provided to LE from a judge (who MUST grant the warrant) and there is no oversight process to protect against the abuse of this power. The feds don't even have to report the findings of such an investigation to the judge either. Originally written to combat drug dealers and organized crime, the electronic surveillance clauses (roving wiretaps, PC/Email surveillance, ISP records, etc.,) have since been modified to be included into the Patriot Act, which has been purposely left ambiguous with regards to who may be considered during a criminal investigation. All of these things may fall under the blanket of "national security" regardless of which division of LE usues these powers. Warrants are pretty much a thing of the past under the current ratification and it is no longer a requirement to inform a suspect that they are under investigation or even tell them if they've been cleared or not.
Again, you should read the provisions set forth in the Patriot Act, especially the sections dealing with warrants and electronic surveillance procedures. Regardless of whether or not you are or have committed illegal acts, you should be VERY concerned about a federal law enforcement agency using your home or property to conduct surveillance activities. Watch your ass!

Further clarification
1) I never gave Customs permision, nor did I invite Customs into my home. They do not need access to my house to spy on my neighbor.
2) Since I became concerned about wire tapping the day they knocked on my door, I post to this board through an encrypted relay to a public network. Unless they get help from the NSA, I'm pretty safe. :) And no this is not illegal.
3) I don't expect them to spend that much time on my property. In fact I think they have gotten bored and moved on already.
