Doxycycline

Just a quick question...

Does anyone know if doxycycline is effective against an abcess? I am curious what antibiotics you all have used or know of that work well.

what do you dose it at? 200 mg per day? And did it keep you from having to aspirate puss if you dosed it early enough?

I've never had to do anything but take it. I take it at 200mg every 5-6 hours with food. It takes care of it in a couple days.

hmm, seems awesome...2 birds with one stone...i take it for acne purposes already, so I guess it also protects me from infection?

Well I don't know how well it works if your immune system is use to the antibiotic. You may have to switch to another antibiotic. I have only had to take it 3 times ever. Skyefire may be able to help you with more detail.

Actually I take minocycline for acne, but the two are under the same class of antibiotic...hmmm what do u think? Skyefire have any input?

shibby is right, if you take it all the time it stops being as effective but still effective. for a bad abcess 200mg twice a day is fine. take on empty stomach

When I take it on an empty stomach I get nauses.

skyefire, is minocycline different enough from doxycycline that I could take doxy given i take minocycline for acne? And what is the dosage range? My bottle says 100 mg twice daily...but maybe you recommend more? Would the dosage adjust according to the maturity of how far the abcess has developed? I actually don't have an abcess...I had a scare...but I am just researching for the future

I wouldn't, one or the other. or take another antibodic that doesn't interfer with the doxy
