  • Bicep injury info please

Hi everyone. New member here. I would appreciate any advice. I was in the gym yesterday doing straight bar curls. I was coming down to moderately heavy weight and as I was letting the bar down from a rep I felt 3 pops in my bicep. there was immediate tightening in the lower bicep. I was expecting it to be really bad because of the pop. It is painful like a moderate tear that will heal on its own with no abnormal look or bruising. I'm pretty sure it is a tendon because it is so close the the elbo bend in my arm. If it wasn't for the pop I wouldn't sweat over it. I would just give it a couple of weeks off to heal and then start back slow. I havn't seen a doctor because there is no abnormal look or bruising so I am assuming it is not torn from the bone to need surgery and the doctor will just tell me to lay off of it. I've had many injuries including torn biceps that would eventually heal on its own. It just never popped like that before. Can there be a mild sprain with a "pop" that isn't anything major? Any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance

I will leave it in this section for a while so maybe it will get more looks, but this is the anabolic forum bro. Post something like this in the self-care forum.

Now as far as your injury, I don't think anyone will be able to give you a definitive answer except for a doctor. I personally would ice it and give it a few days to see how it feels. Is there still pain? I would definitely rest it though and not do anything for at least a few days possibly weeks if it's bad.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, there is still pain. it actually hurts more when I pronate the wrist than when I supranate it. And I feel it more in the forearm now. I also did notice that my bicep doesn't peak now. It moreso hangs inward so I guess the popping was from a tear that might need surgery. I'll call the doc tomarrow and see when the earliest he can get me in.

take a break from direct bicep work. use some aleve or ibuprofen for pain, swelling. when return go light and try DB curls.

Thanks Alin. I had an MRI yesterday and saw the doc today. The MRI did stump the doc a little. He said the tendon looked like it was so close to the area to where it should be, and that my bicep isnt retracted way up my arm(its just a little to the inside now) that it may just be a partial tendon tear. He left it up to me if I wanted surgery or not. If I dont get surgery, he said that over time the pain will definately go away. He also said that I will probably lose some strength in certain movements and the arm doesn't look very abnormal. After hearing this I decided that even if the tendon is partially ruptured, it is going to heal itself close to where he would go in and reattatch it. So I'm going to try the conservative approach. I still have a week to decide if I want surgery before its to late. Thanks again for the replies and any other experiences would be appreciated.
