i got lipectomy on my chest although i didn't get the gland removed becuase my case was so mild. the doc said if he removed the gland, my nipples could have healed inverted (would have been terrible).

the surgery recovery is rather painful for a while and you can't even take a shower for 2 days. the vest bandage always rides on the armpits, but there are worse things.

start feeling good about 2.5-3 weeks, and then it gets alot better after that when you only have to wear the vest at night. i didn't get the gland removed though, so your recovery may be quite a bit longer. I was back in the gym after 3 weeks altho not really pushing it until week 4 or 5.

      the two biggest annoyances:
-sharp pain when you raise your arms or do anything to move the vest for the first two weeks
-showering (taking off the vest, ughh) for the first 2 weeks

I have no pain like that at all I can lift my arms fine, I was able to take a shower today just not directly in the chest area. He told me to stop wearing the vest bandage today and were an under armour compression shirt untill I see him on wednesday

Just had the surgery for the second time 5/23. Had it done 11 years ago but the gyno came back on one side. I don't find the pain that bad. 2 days post surgery and I have full range of motion with minimal pain. Last surgery I was back in the gym doing light legs after about a week. Doing upper body after 2 weeks. Looks like it will be the same this time. Keep in mind I don't let the gyno get real bad before having it removed. This cuts down on cost and recuperation time. Also, if you have the whole gland removed, your nipples will cave in. Surgery is not 100% guarantee that gyno will not come back.

Interesting....I never heard about the inverting nipple problem with having the gland removed. I would like to have this done one day but now I may reconsider.

cuz, did your insurance pay or was this out of pocket?

Out of pocket. 11yrs ago I think I paid $1200 or $1500 (don't remember) for both nips. I knew someone who worked for the surgeon. This time $1600 for one nip. Some insurances will cover it especially if the doc words it in a particular way. Not sure exactly what wording but I think the amount taken out and if you tell the doc your in pain will help.

To clarify about the gland, they will remove some of the gland but not all. Removing all will cause the nip to concave.
