  • What I Heard/Saw in the Gym Today

Whats up crew? Havent posted in a while so I thought Id tell a short story. I just moved from Houston to Lubbock for college. (Texas Tech) In the gyms here, everyone is pretty much juiced up, compared to the Houston ones. Im not saying anything bad about steroids, just it's so apparent by YOUNG and HUGE these "kids" are. Anywayz I guy working out next to me commented on a kids physique saying"How old is that kid? When I was in high school I was thick, but these kid is thick and ripped". Another member quickly jumped in and said, "He just graduated high school, but hes had "some help" with his training. The original guy then said,"I figured he juiced and I dont care how people get in shape" I guess he meant he didnt care if he had a "drug body". Anywayz I just wanted you guys input. By the way his lower body was terrible, meaning his calves were almost non existent, among his quads too. I just feel sorry for young people who "havent learned" that steroids are a tool, and that he will most likely "shrink" down into a slightly bigger size than before. I just wanted to get ur opinion on what u guys do when u see young guys that are obviously bigger thatn they should be. Peace

some of this could be genentics, but most of it is lazyness. working the bottom half of your body takes way too much pain to get it to keep up with the upper. these kids just will not put themselves through it. they are just happy with the girl muscles, plain and simple. i just sit back and laugh. they are everywhere. guys that can bench more than they can squat!!

not me bro calvs look so nice i would trade 1.5"s on the arm for a extra 1.5" in the calvs in a heart beat. i wear shorts almost every day of the year. i wish the lil running shorts would come back in style so i could show my quads. and i wouldnt feel so bad.

it's the out-of-balance physique that gets me more than the gear, and not just small legs...people with full, heavy pecs and no back or lat development, no traps hoisting their t shirt up in the air...

While were on the subject of goofy people and legs. I was at the gym tuesday and I'm doing close grip bench press. This guy says "Do you do squats" and I'm kinda in my own little world. Usually when people ask me anything its of I'm using something so I said "no not right now" But he says it again and I finally figure out that he wants help doing squats. He says someone was tewlling him about putting something under his heels. I tell him, no, not a good idea and I spend a few minutes explaining the benefits of doing free standing squats, going down all the way, not bouncing, etc. Then I go back to what I'm doing, he goes over to the Smith, loads up some 45's and does quarter squats with bad form. There are a lot of times I want to help people but I know most dont want to be helped, especially from a guy who isnt much bigger than they are. What got me is this guy asked me and then just totally disregarded every word I said. Besides that he did like 3 sets of 4 or 5. People at my "gym" get more and more amazing.

and he said, and then she said, and then he said....

GOSSIP in the gym makes me want to puke. Put your headphones on, head down, and train for hells sake. Maybe the reason the kid is bigger then all of you is because he actually works out instead of talking about others in the gym.

If I had it my way, talking would be banned in a gym. Dont worry about anyone else but yourself.

                      :bravonew:

I've learned the best way to get in a great workout is to keep my head down, stay by the equipment I'm working at, and keep the rest between sets minimal. By the time I'm done with Back and Tri's some other guys are still on the same fuckin machine by the entrance of the gym.

And no....high schoolers should not be touching anabolics, but I think that is stressed everywhere on this board.

I don't even concern myself with what others are doing. If they want to hurt themselves, go for it. My theory is if someone is serious, then they're going to take the time to learn what to do and how to do it without risk of serious injury. If they're just trying to impress people with how much weight they have on the bar, then the people who would actually be impressed don't know what they're doing either and who gives a shit what they think anyway. This guy at my gym goes around telling everyone who will listen about this routine that he got out of some "fitness" mag and how grueling it is. I watched him doing incline BB presses and the weight moved as much side to side, back and forth as it did up and down. Not that those magazines don't have any valuable information to offer, but if you don't know why you're doing what you're doing or how to do it effectively, you're not going to get very far.

Now, my goal isn't to get freaky huge, or to even be stronger than anyone else. I just want to improve. Be stronger than I was before. Plus, I just enjoy being in the gym. I love that feeling when your muscles start to contract and the weight moves, then you're at the top and you squeeze and your muscles feel like they're going to burst. Nothing like it. If the stupid people don't want to experience that, then they can stick to the Smith Machine and the pink 5lb dumbells, leaves the squat rack free for me. Actually I use the Smith Machine occasionally for shoulders, but that's about it.

rado- go scratch your chin somewhere else bud. i have been in this game long before you came along!! genetics is not an reason to be a puss. the fact is some people do have limitations that will keep them from looking like Jay Cutler. i am in the same boat as you. small arms, but i still beat the hell out of them. yes i was once 5'8" and 150 in the day, i am not now, but i still have no shot to be a pro!!
bottom line working legs takes NUTS!! most kids don't have those nuts, or don't care enough to get some-

Very good point! Most gyms need a sign saying "Shut up and train!!"
