would 1 or 2 mgs a day of finasteride be enough to supress the excess DHT produced from 500 mgs a week of test; or would dutasteride be more appropriate, in other words, will finasteride (1 or 2 mgs a day) be sufficient in keeping hair through a 10 weeker.

I don't know but since no-one has answered I'd try it and see.

I know that sounds like a cop-out but the only other way would be to try identify what the normal levels of DHT are natutrally occuring. The usual dose for this is 1 tab per day, right.

Then do another google search to establish what DHT conversion equations are for man made test.

Dutasteride will suppress the conversion of both type 1 and type 2 dht conversion, so dutasteride will help you keep more hair. But you will also lose a lot of the benefits from dht as well, such as the strength and aggression. Up to you. All depends on are you usually prone to hair loss while on test?
