  • DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide)

    Anybody heard of it..?

I am new to this forum, and recently created a thread concerning the use of Deca primarily for the purpose of joint reparation, due to accumulated injuries over the years, some of which were sustained while bodybuilding in my earlier years. However, much of the literature i've read, combined with the responses i've gotten here, has made me reconsider steriod treatment for my ailments.

So i was wondering if anyone has heard of DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide), or has had any personal experience with its application, negative or positive? I started using it about 2 weeks ago, and it has alleviated some of my joint pain. DMSO has been reported to have an analgesic effect alone, which effect is hightened when combined with other medicines. I have been experimenting with pulverizing aspirin or ibuprophen into a fine powder, combining it with DMSO, and applying the mixture directly to the affected site before and after working out. This has produced some promising results to my experience, and combined with the apprehension of steriod therapy, may prove to be the best available remedy from my perspective. It is also generally regarded as safe/non-toxic, and even approved by the FDA for the treatment of some diseases.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone here has heard tell of it or had any experience with its use. Below is a link to some info about it, and a ton of data can be found by googling it. Maybe, some here can benefit from its use in their workouts, as any serious weight training puts a tremendous strain on the joints, and reduction of intramuscular and joint inflamation is key to recovery between workouts.

    Any input, greatly appreciated.

p.s. pure DMSO is a skin irritant, so it is recommended it be combined with cold cream, aloe, or some other compound before application to your skin. Although, it can be purchased in any form, and is relatively inexpensive.

I didn't get the relief I was looking for with it. I was kind of disappointed. Right now i am trying Cissus internally and traumeel cream externally.

You've probably already tried glucosamine and chondritin, but, if you haven't, give it a try. It worked well for me.

Another option for joint pain is Adequan. Do lots of research on this one, my friend.

I didn't either, until i started mixing it with aspirin, and applying it b4 and after my workouts. Although, it does appear 2 have a greater effect on joint injuries, in particular. In fact, in 3 weeks time, my AC strain is almost pain free, and the lump/bulge that had developed is half its original size.

In regards to soft tissue injuries, my forearm flexor, for example, i haven't had as much success healing-wise. DMSO does still give me a great deal of pain relief in that area, but the injury is about the same as b4 i started applying DMSO and aspirin. Although, truth b known, i haven't modifed my workouts (different exercises) around this injury as with my shoulder, so i have 2 blame myself in that regard. After all, if it hurts don't do it is still a good rule of thumb for any injury.
