SEATTLE -- A Seattle doctor has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison for giving steroid prescriptions to people who didn't need them.
At yesterday's sentencing in Seattle a federal judge also ordered 58-year-old Howard J. Levine to undergo drug testing and mental health counseling.
Levine was arrested last June after an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent showed up at his office and asked for anabolic steroids. Levine did not ask the agent's medical history before writing the prescription.
Prosecutors noted that Levine's office bore little resemblance to a typical doctor's office, with a pool table in the examination room and beer in the refrigerator.
