  • Bodybuilder who supplied steroids escapes jail term

Jun 3 2008 South Wales Echo

A BODYBUILDER who admitted dealing in anabolic steroids was spared jail at Cardiff Crown Court.

Julian Winter, aged 30, pleaded guilty to seven counts of possession with intent to supply, and three counts of supplying the Class C controlled drug.

Winter was a committed bodybuilder who had reached competition level.

The court heard that at 2.30pm on November 9, 2007, police executed a search warrant at his home in Bryngolau, Tonyrefail, Porth.

He shared the home with his partner, a nurse, and his 10-year-old son.

Above a fridge in the kitchen police found a large quantity of the performance enhancing drug.

Matthew Cobb, prosecuting, said it had a street value of between £1,400 and £2,300.

He was arrested and during police interview admitted supplying the drug to his training partner, whom he refused to name.

Winter had been a keen bodybuilder until he suffered a shoulder injury in a motorcycle accident.

He told police he was planning on making a return to the sport in the very near future.

He said some of the drugs had been exchanged for Valium.

Ieuan Bennett, defending, said the prosecution’s case rested almost entirely on the admissions Winter made in interview – without which there would have been little evidence to convict him.

Mr Bennett said: “Had he not made the admission that he was supplying to a friend it is doubtful he would be before the court this morning.

“The defendant was extremely worried about the possibility of a custodial sentence, and that has been a harsh lesson for him.”

He was sentenced to 180 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £250 costs.

nah, he was silly in saying he dealt to his friend but without naming them they didn't really have a case anyway. He should have just said they are for personal use, piss off then they could do nothing unless they caught him in the act of selling.

If GH was amongst the items then that really wasn't much gear
