World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight Alexandre "Pequeno" Nogueira tested positive for suspected use of the anabolic agent Boldenone following his technical knockout loss to Jose Aldo at WEC 34 on June 1, according to a report released Monday by the California State Athletic Commission.
The CSAC levied a one-year suspension and $2,500 fine against Nogueira (13-5-2) as a result of his infraction. No word yet on whether or not the 30-year-old Brazilian plans to appeal. Nogueira's "A" sample was tested at Quest Diagnostics, and his "B" sample was tested at the Laboratoire de Contole du Dopage, a World Anti-Doping Agency-certified test facility in Laval, Quebec.
A black belt in lute livre, Nogueira has dropped three of his past four fights. Still, the former Shooto champion holds notable victories against Hideki Kadowaki, Rumina Sato and Stephen Palling — the only man to defeat Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto.
