Former Olympic medalist and sporting darling Marion Jones has asked President George W. Bush to commute her six-month jail sentence. Jones is serving prison time for lying to federal agents and being involved in a check-fraud scam.
Jones recently admitted she had used performance-enhancing drugs. This led to the charges, as she had denied for years that she had used steroids. A commution is different to a sentence pardon, in that it reduces or eliminates the sentence.
Jones won three gold and two bronze medals at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
