  • Patients forced to live in agony after NHS refuses to pay for painkilling injections

Tens of thousands with chronic back pain will be forced to live in agony after a decision to slash the number of painkilling injections issued on the NHS, doctors have warned.

The Government's drug rationing watchdog says "therapeutic" injections of steroids, such as cortisone, which are used to reduce inflammation, should no longer be offered to patients suffering from persistent lower back pain when the cause is not known.

Instead the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is ordering doctors to offer patients remedies like acupuncture and osteopathy.

well thats fucking smart, I can tell you exactly what will be hitting the streets harder than ever now fucking morons. Why would you ever not allow a simple cortisone shot if it is needed? acupuncture has helped me in the past but it's no way a comparison to what that url is discussing...

Yeah but I thought you were posting it in connection with the US plans for healthcare reform bill. You see the very reason for these cut backs in cortisone is because there are limited funds available to a public healthcare system or at least those funds available are controlled by government.

This is why everyone in your country is getting so steamed.

At the end of the day our National Health service means that everyone is entitled to a basic level of healthcare, and that is a brilliant thing. Yes in certain cases it can mean restriction of the drugs available but people are entitled to get their own private healthcare on top.

you have 47 million people at the moment with no health insurance which is just unacceptable. Yes there will be some redistribution of medicare funds, some of which have been built by people already paying and its always gonna be annoying when some people seem to get stuff for free, but think of those not able to pay and kids etc

i think its aimed at those long term users, but I have no clue if there is any alternative for some conditions, we would say if its a muscular thing then the problem causing the pain should be dealt with rather that continued corts shots but perhaps some conditions are irreversable and for somone elderly alternatives just arn'rt workable or good for them, pain meds for example are probabnly worse for your health than regular cortisone.

The health system is ok, its just our current dickbrain scotsman priminister that doesn't know how to govern it.:wack::disagree:

I was just talking about this with my mother last tme she called from england few days ago. I'm around boston so the whole masshealth concept has definitely changed things.. under 32k a year it's basically free but you now HAVE to have health insurance (not that that is a bad thing, but I know more than a few people busting there ass and making like 33-35gs a year and fucking paying massive amounts in taxes to fund masshealth).

NO ONE not even Illegals can be denied health care in the U.S.A. It's the law. Government is the problem not the solution. Medicare, Medicaid and the whole third party payer system is the reason health care is costly and it needs to go. There are already programs for children to get health coverage for those that don't have it. This new health care reform has little to do with health care and more to do with a political philosophy than anything else. BTW it will be be very destructive.

I couldn't agree more, and all this bullshit "don't judge me now.. let 10 years past and look back" fuck that, I've seen first hand what happens to people who get fucked over in these scenarios and it will cause chaos, more and more people are getting pissed off just w/RX copays .. try paying for any major surgery or cancer.
