New steroid: THG

Gestrinone is a synthetic progesterone and it is already a 3-one. No need to be converted. You are correct that the name "tetrahydrogestrinone" is not very specific. In fact, I can think of no less than 7 steroidal compounds that would qualify (actually more if you take into account cis and trans ring junctions). However, if it is to be similar to trenbolone in structure, that rules out 6 of the possible 7 in my mind. If any of the double bonds are hydrogenated, it will no longer resemble trenbolone, especially 3 dimensionally. That only leaves the triple bond of the 17-ethyne group. Adding 4 hydrogens to that triple bond will reduce it from an ethyne to an ethyl group, leaving all the double bonds intact. Draw it out for yourself, it is nearly identical to a 17-ethylated trenbolone (note, it is still a 3-one).Originally posted by INTIMID8OR3
THG Tentative Structure - Anyone who cares
Here is a tentative structure for THG. I am not 100%
sure as the name tetrahydrogestrinone is not very
specific. This is my best guess at the moment based on
the structure of gestrinone. Gestrinone has relative
binding affinities(RBA) for the progesterone receptor
(PR) and androgen receptor (AR) of 76 and 83 versus
progesterone and testosterone respectively. This means
that gestrinone has roughly equal affinity for the PR
and AR (a ratio of 1). Trenbolone, on the other hand
has RBA's of 74 and 197 for the PR and AR respectively
(a ratio of 2.67 AR:PR). I would guess that THG would
have a profile similar to that of gestrinone (a ratio
closer to 1) with possibly a little more AR affinity.
This depends on the molecule being enzymatically
converted to a 3-one in the body. If not, then you are
left with a relatively less active diol.
You can't really compare the affinities of gestrinone for the PR and AR receptors to that of THG. They will be widely different. Hydrogenating that ethyne group is an important change. Think about it: if take away the 17-ethyne group of gestrinone, you have something that is virtually identical in structure with trenbolone. The ethyne group is directly responsible for gestrinone's lower AR:PR ratio.
I expect that THG will have very similar AR and PR affinities to 17-methyl trenbone (metribolone), a known anabolic steroid.

It wasn't an injectable. It was a liquid oral.Originally posted by Submission1
The sprinter (Chambers?) who tested positive admits to testing positive, but claims he didn't know he was taking THG. Well, if it's an injectable, what the hell did he think he was taking? A flu shot?
