  • Benzyl Alcohol

I ordered some Benzyl alcohol form RUI and it came in today but its tinted (colored) like ice tea...I have never seen this. The Benzyl i have used over the years has always been clear. Just wanna make sure this is alright to make my gear with...Anyone know anything about this ?

Didn't say if it was USP grade either.

I've done some digging and found out that BA should not be stored in plastic containers...which it was shipped to me in. Maybe it leaches something out of the plastic...I don't know. Has anyone used BA out of a plastic container that has started to change color ?

I would just contact who you got it from and ask them.

Yes OD, benzyl alcohol is clear as it sounds like you already know. Isn't RUI a board sponsor? Is the plastic bottle it shipped in brown or any color other than clear? BA will leach chemicals out of certain plastics(rubber stoppers). Thats why I store vials upright so the gear has minimal contact with it. Good looking out and toss that stuff bro.

Try LeMalange.com. They start with USP grade products. It is considered technical grade once they rebottle the product. They will ship in glass bottles on request for a small fee. They also have any kind of oil you need. I have no ties with this company, just great success with them in the past. They cater to people who make perfume and soap.

BA will oxidize slightly faster in plastic than opposed to glass, however I've found it to oxidize in any/all conditions, just at different rates. Oxidation in plastic is still a very slow process

The BA you ordered from me should have never been produced long enough for it to have oxidized at the level you've described. That is an error on our part. It sounds like you have gotten rid of it i would have asked you to send a pic, but no worries. This is an issue which will be taken care of.

Shoot me a PM with your order number.

              Thanks
