Thanks again fella. Its hard to get real decent advice.
So many contradictions on the net, and a lot PTs are just as bad regurgitating the same stuff I can google but charging £30ph!

In my younger days I used to go to an old school in Dagenham east London which was converted into an adult college.
It was probably the best gym I've been too, equipment was 2nd hand but the blokes who used it serious about their lifting.
Since moving out to deepest darkest essex and a job change I stopped going, just no time family commuting to london etc.
When I decided to get back into shape the only real options available where LA Fitness and Fitness First.
I say these are the only ones available due to my working hours, I need somewhere open before I go to work.

LA Fitness, nice clean, limited free weights.
Fitness first, my local has a lot of free weights and machines, its open early so it suits me. Trouble is there are no serious bodybuilders there.
Fitness First is everywhere in Essex and London, so I can also get to the gym in my lunch break - but only for cardio as there is a very limited amount of weight training equipment. I guess this is due to the fact your average city worker just wants to be thin and fit!
At £40pm I effectively get to use 2 gyms twice a day, so it suits me.

May I ask what part of sunny old blighty you are from?

South london/surrey, train at either; fx in croydon, bodyheat caterham, pinks carshalton, or physique warehouse east molesley.

To coin a football motto 'no one likes us we don't care!'.

For such a small country we've ruled the world!:)
