  • Bonnar was on steroids when he was dominated by Silva at UFC 153

Stephan Bonnar was on steroids at UFC 153 – and he still couldn’t even mount a challenge against Anderson Silva.
Bonnar failed a drug test following the Oct. 13 card, according to MMAjunkie.com. He tested positive for drostanolone, an anabolic steroid. Silva, the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, beat Bonnar via TKO in the first round with a vicious knee to the chest. Bonnar had never been knocked out before.
UFC officials confirmed to the website that Bonnar and co-main event fighter Dave Herman, who lost to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, both failed drug tests. Herman tested positive for marijuana metabolites. Both men are facing suspensions, according to UFC executive Marc Ratner. Because the event was in Brazil where there is no athletic commission, the company arranged the tests itself.
Bonnar announced his retirement earlier this week. This isn’t his first time getting caught taking performance-enhancing drugs, either. His first positive test and suspension came after UFC 62 on Aug. 26, 2006 when he lost to Forrest Griffin by unanimous decision. Bonnar tested positive for a Boldenone metabolite that resulted from anabolic steroid use at the time.
The remaining 22 fighters on the card tested negative for any drugs of abuse or performance-enhancing substances.
That includes Silva, who dominated Bonnar so thoroughly that he put himself up against the cage, taunting his opponent to clinch with him. When he seemingly got bored of toying with Bonnar, Silva tripped him and pounced with a pinpoint knee to the chest. Bonnar dropped and curled into the fetal position. Silva finished with punches on the ground.
Given that Bonnar was on some pretty heavy juice during that fight, it makes Silva’s win becomes even more impressive. As for Bonnar, it tarnishes his fan-favorite persona, especially considering this isn’t the first time.

Taking steroids doesn't magically give you a skill set to beat the best fighter in the world. Let's be honest, if your a high dollar athlete, and high dollar being relative...meaning high visibility, sponsors, etc. how could you NOT take a performance enhancing drug? We all know steroids don't magically make you stronger or faster, the work still needs to be put in.

I truly don't think there is a top tier fighter on the planet right now not taking a banned substance, to include Anderson Silva. I think your success or failure with testing in todays day and age depends alot on your support structure. Anderson Silva is a national fucking hero in Brazil. I have no doubt he has access to the best of the best from ortho, to endocrinology...If you don't believe it matters, take a long look at Lance Armstrong. It only fell apart because he was in a team sport and his buddies finally shit the bed on him..up until then he was the most tested professional athlete alive, flawlessly for the most part.

Bonnar has been taking steroids his entire career, just like the majority of MMA fighters out there. He was just not very good at it, or in this case really didn't give a shit because he knows the fans really dont give a shit.

I honestly think it was a fixed fight just to save that pay per view. Bonnar was going to retire anyway.

I think that's kind of ridiculous. Not that fixed fights aren't a possibility, but why would they have to fix a fight between two fighters at completely different levels. That fight went exactly how everyone expected and how it should have.

Watch the fight again. Reminds me of an episode of a rehearsed WWE smack down or RAW. Since Fox has been involved with the UFC Ive seen it turn for the worse IMO.

Still makes zero sense. Fixed fights typically have an underdog win. Why would you fix a fight to have the clear dominant favored fighter win. Lol
