Mix 96 - News - Drugs Dealers Sentenced Later Over Gym-Goer's Steroid Death
Two Buckinghamshire men, who have been convicted of conspiracy to sell class C steroids, will be sentenced today (24th July).
Peter Purkins, 48 of Heather Walk, Hazlemere, was charged on 12th September 2013 with one count of conspiracy to produce and supply class C steroids and Jason King, 43 of Dresser Close Prestwood, Great Missenden, was charged on 12th September 2013 with one count of conspiracy to produce and supply class C steroids and also one count of perverting the course of justice.
Both were both found guilty by a jury of the charges against them at the Old Bailey, following a trial which started on Wednesday 24th June.
The charges resulted from the investigation into the death of Sean Cleathero who died on 16th October 2012 after taking Dinitrophenol (DNP) at the Apollo Gym in High Wycombe which he bought off the two men.
Investigating officer Det Sgt Paul Quinton, from Major Crime in Aylesbury, said:
“I am pleased for the family that this case has now concluded and these two men have been convicted. I know how difficult the last three years have been for them since the death of Sean.
“I hope this will act as a deterrent to those who may consider supplying similar substances and they understand there can be very serious consequences for all those involved. I hope similar tragedies can be avoided in the future.”
Following the verdict, Sharon Ayres, Sean Cleathero’s mother said:
“I take some comfort that Purkins and King have been found guilty of these offences. I hope this highlights the dangers and deters other people from supplying class C anabolic steroids and also DNP.”
Purkins and King will learn their fate today.
