LONDON (Reuters) - Olympic shot put champion Yanina Korolchik of Belarus has been banned for two years after failing a drug test, a spokesman for international athletics' governing body said on Tuesday.
Korolchik tested positive for the steroid clenbuterol, which promotes muscle growth and is used to treat asthma, during a tournament in Dortmund, Germany, on June 15. Both Korolchik's samples showed traces of the drug.
"We received confirmation of the ban from the Belarus Athletics Federation," IAAF spokesman Nick Davies said.
The 26-year-old won gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and claimed the world title in Edmonton in 2001.
