The owner of Power Trip, an underground laboratory (UGL) that manufactured anabolic steroids and other ancillary bodybuilding drugs, is going to prison for a very long time. Aaron Schweidler was sentenced to four years in federal prison by U.S. Chief District Judge Greg Kays on April 12, 2017.

Power Trip was once one of the top-rated domestic UGLs on Eroids. The UGL’s business thrived with Internet sales to thousands of customers from December 2011 to December 2015. During this period, prosecutors conservatively estimated that Power Trip sold at least 90,000 vials of injectable steroids at an average price of $25 per vial for a total of $2.25 million.
Schweidler was the leader of the Power Trip steroid manufacturing and distribution organization but he had help from three other co-conspirators including his girlfriend Nicole Lyne as well as Michael Peters and Samuel Miller. All four were indicted by a federal grand jury for the Western District of Missouri Western Division in February 2016.
The co-conspirators all ultimately entered plea agreements with Schweidler pleading guilty to conspiracy to manufacture and distribute anabolic steroids and conspiracy to commit money laundering. As part of Schweidler’s agreement, federal prosecutors agreed to recommend a 48-month prison sentence. And Judge Kays gave him exactly that and not a day less. While four years may seem like a long time, it certainly beats the decades in prison he originally faced.
Schweidler’s girlfriend was able to avoid prison when Judge Kays gave her five years of probation. After all, Lyne only became involved when she started dating Schweidler when he moved to Kansas City long after Power Trip was well-established. Peters and Miller are still awaiting sentencing. Peters is expected to be sentenced to a few years in prison since he took over operational control from Schweidler towards the end.
Schweidler originally founded Power Trip in Utah back in 2011. He moved to North Carolina where he partnered with co-conspirator Peters. Schweidler and Peters moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the summer of 2013. Peters took over operational duties for Power Trip and moved the clandestine lab back to North Carolina in the fall of 2014.
When Peters took over, police raided the Power Trip lab at Peters’ North Carolina residence on December 23, 2014. Police seized a lot of incriminating evidence including a “steroid recipe notebook” in his possession. This notebook was used to calculate a conservative estimate of the proceeds of the crime. This helped the government win the forfeiture order of $2.25 million.
