  • Does Hair Loss Increase with Greater Amounts of Steroids?

    By Bill Roberts

Q: Will my hair loss increase when I take greater amounts of steroids? And if I only experience minor hair loss using large doses of anabolic steroids like winstrol, masteron and tren (steroids known for hair loss), would small doses of AAS known to cause minimal hair loss cause much if any at all?

A: Hypothetically: Some events are more “on/off” than being strongly dosage dependent. In other words, one is past a threshold or one is not, and it may not make much difference how much one is above the threshold.

I lost a substantial amount of hair — not so much receding but rather thinness on top — in my 20s and certainly by the time of starting using anabolic steroids at 36, and I’m not at all convinced that the further loss is necessarily substantially more than it would have been had I not used steroids.

Now, there’s no knowing what “would have” happened.

But I’m quite sure that had someone compared seeing me at those ages and now, they’d find the current condition quite in line with expectations, NOT knowing that I’d used steroids.

So in my case I think my hairloss has been more a matter of natural testosterone already being sufficient to put me past the threshold, and higher yet levels not really doing anything much if at all towards accelerating things further.

It's undeniable for me. I see the change every time I increase the dose from my prescribed trt to low dose cycle (250-300). I go from seeing a few hairs here and there on the shower floor to seeing them all over. Looking at my hairline and thickness now compared to pictures over the last 2 years is jaw dropping for me. Definitely the hardest side effect for me to deal with. Prescribed nizoral helps but not much.

That answers it then. It's largely genetic. I'm currently running 500mgs Test C and Deca 100mgs per week with no issues. Nizerol has been more then enough for me.

When I say genetic I don't mean natural hair loss. I mean genetic in how your body deals with steroids. In the same way that some people are hyper responders and others dont respond well at all. I think the same thing applies to hair. The increased hormone turns something on in your genes and makes hair come out at an increased rate.

Absolutely. My body obviously increases dht conversion at a much higher rate than you/others.

Let's talk when you get closer to 40. Your body may deal with things differently then.

No. Not until the last 2-3 years.

I know it's gear related because when I am strictly on trt I rarely notice a hair in the shower or sink.

Bump up the dose and its shedding season.

blm have you tried an increase in nizerol to try and fix the problem? nizerol is supposed to prevent that dht problem in the follicle so it stands to reason that it should work for you.

maybe something like using it everyday. OR if your already doing that try leaving on your scalp for longer. instead of 5 minutes try 10 minutes. I know it's a long shot but maybe it could help by a small percentage and may just be enough to prevent the extra fall out on cycle. worth a try at least.

I already do it everyday. Typically 5 minutes sometimes longer.

If it were me I'd leave that shit in for 30 minutes then. I'm anal about experimenting to fully understand how something works with my body.

I noticed all kinds of hair falling out on cycle. Especially DHT based orals. Increased body hair that I never had and decreased head hair came along with my test cycle. Always had a little of a receding hairline but it is more pronounced now. I'm definitely going to try the nizerol next time.

Is that based on science or theory red?

Its based on centuries of controlled university studies analyzing the physical impacts of anabolism on rhesus monkeys, which are thought to be the most similar to humans based on their tolerance of a broad range of habitats. When injected with anabolic steroids the Rhesus' public hair will instantly take on a grayish hue. Researchers have made a direct correlation between the Pubic hair of rhesus monkey and the facial hair of the Anglo Saxon.

Lmao. I like the effort. I think it translates to the following.

"I've gone grey with a receding hair line thus my conclusion"!

My genetics seem great in terms of having full hair all over lol....grays galore but I love them, and so does everyone else.
