The effect social media has on older people who are lonely and not much to do (my mom) is not very well understood I don't think. In years to come I think we will see how dangerous some of this stuff can be on a mind unable to cope and make sense of the modern world.
She is not the woman who raised me. Completely changed. Her interest, her thought process, her character has completely changed. Years and years of being in an echo chamber with your boomer friends on Facebook and having nobody in real life to keep you grounded can have some serious and dangerous effects...
