I read that article. I'm uneducated in the tech world. Clueless, actually. What is the end result here? What are they trying to gain, routers? What does that do? Can more routers be added so everyone can play? Is there a '6th grade' explanation to this so I can better understand that shit show?

hard to explain when your that lost bro. nothing to do with "trying to gain routers". they are using millions of infected computers they control to direct traffic all at the same time to a website to overload it. by doing that it shuts down the target website.

the gain is usually money. either some sort of ransom or someone else paying them to shutdown a website.
