For financial and brand reasons alone, the first company to announce an "end to covid life saving medication" is a massive incentive for any pharma company. brand recognition alone and a place in history as "the company that saved the world" would be an advertising dream even if there was no financial gain directly.

Pfizer didn't take any Warp Speed money to develop the vaccine. They put up $2B of their own money for that. Now, Pfizer does have an agreement to sell $1.05B worth of vaccines to the Feds if their vaccine is successful, but that does not have anything to do with the Warp Speed seed money program.

Should also be noted that multiple vaccines are coming from multiple companies. Even so. It won't be something that anyone can just go and get until at least late Feb/early March. CEO of Merck made some comments alluding to that fact late last week. He can't give away much because what he has to say can seriously move markets and that's obviously a no no. But trust me when I tell you. This winter will not be saved by any vaccine. Late Winter/Early spring 2021 is when we finally get rid of this thing as a real threat. It will be with us a long time but the threat of overwhelming hospitals will end at that time.
