  • Proposed NHL rule changes

The GMs have recommended the following rule changes for the NHL next season:

    1. Goal pads no wider than 10 inches

    2. Goaltenders no longer allowed to handle the puck behind the icing line

    3. Tag-up offside rule to cut down on whistles

    4. Moving the nets back to where they were in the 80's, and
adding the 6ft gained to the neutral zone

All sound like great ideas that could add some offense to the game!:D

First of all, i don't understand what the Tag up offside shit is. How does this work? Now i don't have a problem about the goaltenders handling the puck. What i have a problem with, is that you can't hit them if they come out of the crease. Let them play the puck all they like. But as soon as they step out off the crease, they're fair game.

Tag-up means that the whistle will no longer be blown as soon as the puck is fired into the opposing zone with a player offside. Players will be able to skate back out of the zone, and then re-enter, to apply a forecheck. The whistle will only be blown if the player who is offside touches the puck.

As far as making goalies fair game, that will never happen. The NHL can't afford to have more goalies injured....it's a position that most teams aren't very deep in to begin with.

Ok, the tag up is a great idea. LOL, i think if they made the goalies fair game, the problem would solve itself. Give them the choice to play the puck and risk getting hit or stay in the net and don't play the puck. I remeber when they were fair game back in the late 80's. Fun times!

Get rid of the fricken redline. I also think they need to drop the value of a tie. or keep it at one point but make a win worth 3. i hate OT ties. (especially cuz i dont play enough +.5 games ;) )

Making a regulation time win worth 3pts was also discussed, Tin.
