you should look at the ingredients in the eukanuba... it's got chicken-by-product meal as like the second ingredient... and from what i understand, that's all really bad chicken stuff....
we've bought blue by buffalo from petsmart for the puppy when he gets home and there are no by-products in it.
the super premium kibbles are all the ones which you never hear about - i just wanna hear some opinions on whether it makes a difference...
this is the company that makes the food we're getting for the pup right now http://www.bluebuff.com/ - they have it at petsmart, and their first ingredient is chicken instead of chicken meal like in nutro. we spent like 2 hours staring at ingredients at petsmart - i felt like my eyes were gonna bleed.
i still think i wanna look into a raw meat and bone diet for the dog :)
Originally posted by Keiser Yeah it makes a big difference.... my weim is allergic to just about everything, all beef & chicken products, so I have to feed her duck and potato food from the vet, but you can only get food like that from the vet... not petsmart, petco, etc...
I have keiser on Nutro, I think its the best over the counter dog food. Look at its ingrediants.... Start with the Nutro Puppy, then after a year switch to the nutro lamb & rice. That is unless your dog ends up with allergies... then you'll have to get the special food from the vet $$$.
I'm pretty sure that kibble has by products.... a lot of dogs are allergic to corn, check and see if it has corn, whatever you do, don't get the Ol'Roy from Walmart.
I agree here. My golden has allergies too and we feed him the prescription diet fish and potato. He can't have beef, chicken, corn and also watch the wheat. That means no raw hides or nylabones either for him. It makes it hard when Mr. T's dobe can eat anything!
Both of my pits started out as babies on simple purina puppy chow. Once they both grew up (fast) and went to 90lbs and 65lbs.; the vet suggested Purina Fit and Slim, which is what they have been on for the past 2 years and seem to be doing great. BTW...dogs HATE to change foods and will get sick for awhile and shit like crazy until they get adjusted. We recently changed to IAMS special formula and had to do it over a 3 or 4 week period. Good luck and I am sure we all can`t wait to see pics!!!
I live out in the boonies and have some cow dogs. I just go to the local meat market usually where all the folks here take their killins and have em processed. I go there and get a half slab of a calf ( a half of a whole calf raw ) and hell I chunk that in the yard and let them chew on that. When I go out and see it just bone left I go get another.
